1946 18k Gold Oyster Perpetual Bubbleback

Hi i'm trying to do some research on my grandfather's rolex. It is a 1946 18k gold Oyster Perpetual bubbleback chromoter with pen/pencil hands in perfect condition with original everything including band. My dad said this was the first self winding model rolex made (not sure if that's true?). Anyhow, if someone could give me an idea as to the rarity and value of this watch that would be appreciated. I was told by an expert that the condition is "excellent"
Thanks.

Not to nitpick but if an "expert" can tell you it's in excellent condition why cant that expert give you an idea of it's rarity and/or value?

Pic's would help to and maybe post this in the Vintage Forum as well. Best of luck.

They estimated it at 10k and wanted to buy it. That is why I am investigating second opinions from other sources to make sure I don't get ripped off. The watch is at my dads house presently i cannot get pics today but perhaps in the future next time i'm at his house. Sorry if you don't believe me...

You might want to post this question in the vintage Sub Forum. Luv to see some PICs when you get a chance.

I didn't say I didn't believe you I just wonder why an expert can tell you it's in excellent condition but not it's value, you presented your case as if you had no idea of its value now you say you were told 10k so it makes sense to me now.

You trying to get a second opinion and that's cool nothing wrong with that.
