Save? Flip? Buy on a whim?
This is a discussion my friend and I had recently. Out of curiosity, we were wondering the process a Rolex enthusiast takes to acquire new models. Do you save up? Do you flip one to get another? Or, do you usually have enough discretionary income to be able to buy what you like on a whim? After all, some of you guys are professional Rolex buyers.
Thanks! |

Only bought one (so far).
I had often looked and wanted one, but never really thought that seriously about it. Then, one day, I just thought "I can get one, so I will" and toddled off to the AD.....

I have been buying on a whim. As a result, I recently have had to trim the herd a bit and have sold three watches in the last month. Now the search begins again.

Unfortunately I would day 95% of it is a whim and just to decide to add something new to the collection. That being said however I will often flip too as I dont like to have more than 5 at one time

I save to buy...unfortunately tastes change or some watches prove to be uncomfortable. In that case up for sale they go.

None of the above....Never on a whim and would only buy with monies that are not (or will not) be needed for more important / needed purchases.
I will only buy a Rolex when I am certain that I really like a particular model and when I believe that I will enjoy wearing that watch for years to come....and that I believe that I am buying smartly; usually preowned in real good condition and at a price significantly below original MSRP.

I don't have a Rolex but I saved for every watch I owned! Nothing like that feeling you get when you spend hard earned money on something you set your eyes on!

I subscribe to this type of buying/selling!!! I do pretty much the same thing. I will add though, I go through phases of doing nothing, or selling some off, and then I get the itch and start buying again!!!!
