Those of you with more than one Rolex...

I was just curious, how do you folks with more than one Rolex keep them all correct? If you wear one for a day and then the next morning your other one most likely would have stopped and then you will have to re-set the time. What are the best methods for you to be able to keep all your Rolex moving correctly even though you don't get a chance to wear it?

Sorry, I don't have two Rolex watches at the moment, but I will give you my reply all the same:

You might want to buy a watch winder.

But watch winders are more of a convenience than a necessity, though.

If you would have a very complicated watch like a Patek Philippe or IWC perpetual calendar, a watch winder comes in handy so that you do not have to adjust the whole calendar if the watch has stopped.

But for a Rolex where you would only have to adjust the date, I do not believe you need a watch winder. So I would just let it stop and give it a full 40 windings before wearing it again.

You can read more in the FAQ's, section "Winding setting your watch". here is the link:

http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=8478

(scroll a bit down)

A long term "rest" of the watch would definately NOT harm the watch! Modern watch lubrication oils are synthetic and would not dry out like the oils used in older watches.

When you are wearing your watch, the parts are actually being exposed to WEAR AND TEAR. And if you are keeping the watch constantly moving on a watch winder, this means even MORE wear and tear.

Therefore a watch winder has no positive effect on the watch whatsoever, but is a mere practical device to keep it going.

If you only have two, and you alternate wearing them, it shouldn't be a problem. Just about all Rolexes have a 40+ hour power reserve.

For those of us with more than two, many of us keep the extra ones on winders. E.g., I have 9 automatics. But I only have 8 winders. So it's always a game of musical chairs. Each time I take one auto off the winder, I put the one I was wearing on it because I never know from day to day which one I'll wear next.

Sounds like a deliciously wonderful game to play too!

I have five automatics and a four-post winder. Much like what rockrolex mentioned, I play musical watches daily and put on whatever grabs me that morning (or whatever my wife tells me she wants me to wear that day).

I've programmed my watch winder to turn on for a 24 hours cycle every second day.

Same with me... I own/owned 3 Rolex's, 1 Tag, 1 Omega PO and 2 Seiko Automatics. I have 2 x2 watchwinders. Now since I bought my brand new 16610 Sub date I wear it 99% of the time. My wife wears her datejust exclusivley too so most of my watches just spin and spin. Those Siekos are manual winds and they don't stay wound well even on the winders. I think the rotors take more umph to keep em wound.

WHAAAAT..... We're supposed to keep them on the same time ???

Nobody told me this..

I've got some of them kind of close:

Some of these are close too....

But not to each other....

What about all the others ??

If I get a new Omega, does it have to be on the same time as the Rolex ??

I have three Rollies and one winder (not including my wrist.) However, I stopped using the winder and just keep them in a watch box. I manually wind and set them before wearing.

I have 3 and my wife has 2.

With the 40+ hour power reserve there is no problem. I wear 1 each day. Keeps them all wound just fine

And also a couple of quartz watches that always run accurate in the collection.

To tell you the truth James I dont know. I saw it on display at the AD and told them to order me one. When it came in, it was in a plain white box and they gave it to me as a gift..

I could find out though!!!

I have four waches + my wife's Oyster Perpetual. I tend to wear my watches for a week hence the need for a winder. The winder is more of a convenience than a necessity.

Robb, that was adecent of your AD to give that to you. And for all you folks who keep asking about where to get a watch, this is an example of why you simply fo to your local AD and do business there rather than chase discounts all over the place with no real base for your future Rolex needs.

I received it as a gift from my girlfriend (from the AD where I purchased the watches). It's the only model of this type I've seen so I'm guessing it's not a current year model? Maybe last years model?

It's pretty cool, I like it a lot. I've got my eyes on one of the "bigger" ones, but then I'll have to buy more watches

I have an Orbita Siena 2 and here's a picture from an unknown internet site. It's a two watch winder but can be expanded to handle three watches. IMO, it's a great convenience to just change watches without having to wind or reset them.

You can have up to five Rolexes and they will keep time just right. They go 42 hours, so wear one for the day, one when you get home for the evening, and one when you go to bed and keep rotating.

Personally, my comfort level is just TWO Rolex watches.

So I wear one for a week while the other one remains in the little vault at home. I mgiht even wear it for two weeks and then decide to switch to the other one.

Doesn't take more than a few seconds to set the time and date on the stopped one.

I have several auto watches and never bother with a winder, waste of money as far as I am concerned. If I have a situation where one has become less favourable and not been worn for a while, I just strap them to the kids hamsters ferris wheel for a couple of days and that seems to do a pretty good job, although I do need to put two on at a time so that it stays balanced

I own several automatics and no winders. Half the fun is setting and winding my collection from time to time. You learn each watch has it's own idiocincracies.
