I would go with the AP... The Subc is a great watch, but the RO is something extra special...

They can't be compared!
As a only piece i'd get the Sub and then save up for the AP.

This is the only Sub I'd get over a RO.

Myself just don't like the style of any of the RO range so being honest would choose the Rolex, but myself not a fan of the block case or ceramic inserts.

For daily wear I like te Sub

AP 15300 is a great watch (as is every AP imo). The Sub is more rugged and tough.
I always look at the Royal Oak as mor of a dressy watch but that's just my opinion. Many wear the Oak as a daily wearer.
All being said, I own both AP & Rolex but if it could be just one I'd stick with the SubC.

For a dress watch the RO jumbo is an excellent choice.

I might be in he minority, but those APs are just not pretty. I know the finish is impeccable and the brand is top-notch, but the bottom line is that you gotta look at the thing on your wrist. The RO watch design, aesthetically, is kinda ugly, IMHO. The Sub, old or new, is simply a nicer looking watch. Of course, it's completely subjective, and to each their own.

I would opt for an AP over a Rolex, but I would get the AP diver or the ROO not the 15300. I wear my watches swimming and I would not feel comfortable with the 50 meter depth rating of the 15300.

I love these "but the Rolex is tough" type of comments. What happens if you don't need rugged and tough - after all we're not all welding underwater pipe lines everyday.

If you don't need it why not spend your money on a more refined, better finished and visible movement in an iconic watch? If you've got the extra cash or are happy to buy pre-owned the AP RO is a great piece to own.

Get a RO. Subs are becoming incredibly common and the market is rife with replica subs. I have a TT sub ceramic and everyday I look at it I grow more and more out of love with it. Roll on Day Date II or AP ROO for me!

What he said.

Got my wife an AP with diamonds and it rocks. But not grooving on the APs for my wrist. Maybe it's an acquired taste; I'll keep trying.....
