THIS A VIDEO TAKEN BY A STATE TROOPER DASH CAM . SEE HOW QUICKLY YOUR LIFE COULD CHANGE BY TAKING YOUR EYES OFF THE ROAD FOR A SPLIT SECOND. THINK ABOUT THIS NEXT TIME YOU SEE SOMEONE TEXTING OR READING A BOOK OR PUTTING ON THEIR MAKEUP, WHILE DRIVING.

One thing I have noticed when driving in the states is the lack of crash bariers/central reservations on dual carriage ways. In the UK that accident wouldnt have happened.
So easy to get a tank slapper on a snowy roads. The chain reaction is shocking in that sequence.

I wonder if it was excessive speed, and not just driver inattention. Hard to tell, but it looks like they're changing lanes to pass the slower truck, and going fast enough that the car in front scoots to the slower lane to get out of the way.
Horrible. |

Saw that about a week ago. Couldn't watch it twice. Has made me drive more defensively and carefully lately.

Not saying this had anything to do with it but every state should enact hand free cell laws.
I was on my motorcycle last week, on the freeway in stop and go traffic and I look over and this guy is texting away, while traffic is backing up every 30 seconds ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Tragic, And as Paul said the need for barriers is a fact.

There is no way that anyone walked away from that. It just goes to show what a moment of inattention may cause. We have laws prohibiting the use of mobile 'phones in your car over here but you still see lots of selfless twits using them.

I just showed that to my daughter and said to her "That is why I get angry with you if you distract me while driving". So many people are soooooo bad at it here it scares me. Gen-Y's all with mobiles surgically attached to their ears, people driving along in cars that I know for a fact have bluetooth integration, but they are too dopey or too lazy to work it out.
It all scares the hell out of me when I am driving and I concentrate when I am doing it. My father drummed that into me and I thank him for it. |

I don't see anything even resembling a central reservation which is shockingly poor. It doesn't even look like a huge driving error. I mean it looks more to me like an awful chain reaction coming from him skidding on whatever that thing is. The road doesn't look like it's been treated very well post snow either. I'm sure it was partly the guys fault but can anyone say they've never lost concentration for even a second or two ? |

This happened in Russia, not the States. Vehicle was a Nissan Navara (Frontier).
Video wasn't shot by a "state trooper" or any police official, just randomly, apparently. The driver of course was killed instantly. Here in the United States our highways are divided by a barrier. I'm on a Nissan board so it's a hot topic. http://www.clubfrontier.org/forums/f...a-crash-78131/ http://www.clubfrontier.org/forums/f...a-crash-78074/ |

That is scary that there are places where opposite lanes of oncoming traffic are allowed to go so fast. Head on collisions must be fairly common with this type of setup, hunh?

The reason why we dont do it like the UK is that once the car hits the rail, it gets launched back into traffic at a much lower speed causing a lot more havoc than what would happen here. |

On the highways here which don't have guard rails, the median is wide. Also, they are slanted down to a 'V' so in a crash the vehicle will hit up against the rise of the other half of the 'V'. The Russian roadway had a flat separation between the lanes, with no embankment to stop a vehicle from going into the other lane.
