Excellent details. Macro lens? Was the "22" on the bezel your focus point?

Ok here is my secret-

It was shot with a Nikon D7000, mounted to a AF-S MICRO NIKKOR 105mm f 2.8 G ED.exposure 1.8 sec. at f8, Raw, with Nikon color setting to "Adobe RGB", mounted on a Manfrotto tripod.

Ambient day light, from a window at 10 o'clock to the subject. No flash.

This was manually focused, with shutter fired using the camera's automatic timer to reduce camera shake. Focus point was the center of the frame, (but I think depth of field at f8 is too shallow). But I took only one exposure! I needed to test more.

This is uncropped, but processed through Photoshop CS5, with unsharp mask and luminosity faded 50%. The file was then Saved to Web as a JPEG to the maximum allowable file size permitted by TRF.

One day, maybe, I will be as good as Jocke and some of the other folks here like SLR DUDE, but that day is a long way off.

Thanks for sharing your workflow. I'm primarily into landscape photography but I do have a macro lens. I'm still a n00b in macro photography though. Need a lot more practice. I agree that f/8 was too shallow here if your aim was to get as much of the dial and bezel in focus. Maybe try f/11?

Thanks. I think on the next round, will try stopping down to f22…and lighting a bonfire ...

Bonfire? Now that's an interesting light source. BTW, judging from the pillow in your pic we got the same watch box, the name which escapes my mind right now.

Yep- stopping down to f22 will require some serious lumens. The watch box came from Wolf Designs.

My compliments to Chip (SLRdude) who amped up my photo with this very nice border and additional processing to show off the color of the GMT …. thanks, Chip!
