Steinhausan Watch Winder

A few weehs ago I purchased a two watch winder for my two Rolexs. We went on a three day outing and I wore one and left one on the winder, when we returned I went to put the one I had worn on the trip on the winder and found the one that I left on the winder had stopped. This winder operates every 12 minutes for 30 seconds. Anyone have any suggestions for me .Hayman4353

I don't know much about watchwinders....

But I do know that I have seen the most complaints on forums about the Steinhausen models.

Assuming the Watches are OK, I would look into the performance of the winder to ensure it actually was rotating as expected...

Sure sounds like an issue with the winder. I'd have it checked.

As Larry says, Steinhausen winders are said to be less good quality, at least judging from reports here on TRF.

Steinhausen's tech support has told me twice that thier winders are not heavy duty enough for a Rolex sports model.

A winder for a Rolex should be programmable and Rolex watches should be set for bi-directional. Orbita makes very good winders.

If you spend a couple thousand dollars on a watch why put it on a cheap winder? JMHO =) maverick

Maybe you should try another setting. Mine is set to one hour on and three hours off.

There are no other settings, the only reason I purchased the Stienhausen we I thought the forum liked it better then the other brands.Awhile ago I went in to look at the winder and only one watch was moving. Hayman4353

Learned the hard way that you get what you pay for in winders like with most things in life.

I like the Orbitas too, but there are others that are good as well. At a min, a winder should allow you to set the winds per day and the direction. There are plenty of places to determine if your watch requires CW, CCW rotation or if both will work. Winding interval is also important to keep it wound , yet not over wound.

I have an Orbita Siena 2 and love it.

You can program the TPD (turns per day) depending on the brand of watch. It also operates on batteries or household current. I use the batteries and this allows it to still work while stored in my safe.

It takes ~900 turns to fully wind one. 44 hour reserve (~2 days)

If you put it in the winder wound, then within the first day (24 hrs) it will have used ~half it's reserve.

So, 450 or more turns per 24 hour day would keep it wound for many months... Rolex wind either direction.

However, if you don't want to fully wind it each time you put it on the winder, I would figure 600 per ea. 24 hrs. as a round number to work with..... You can't really over wind, but you can wear out the moving parts..
