Is this authentic and is it worth to purchase?

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Jl720-Vintage...item27c8de5892

I'm thinking if this is worth it? Thinking about it, I may be able to get a fully working vintage (SS) at $1500. This may not be worth it at all due to the quick set not working and the crystal and cyclops are all scratched up?

When it comes to vintage, budget buys are usually a bigger headache. I would save up and buy a quality piece that you will not need to replace when you realize you can't live with certain flaws of a watch. Especially one that is not polished to death!

I agree, that DJ could require extensive work....

This cracks me up!

Not to be a contrarian, but I dont think this one looks too bad. The case doesn't look overpolished to me, in fact, it looks like normal wear without polishing. The lug holes still look sharp, and the pin depth is appropriate. The stretch on the bracelet isn't too bad at all. I think the seller means that two links have been taken out, but are included in the sale. The fact is that the vast majority of these watches require service, but most seller say that they "run great." This looks like an honest seller - so if you want a datejust you KNOW has been serviced, buy it, wear it for a while, and then send it in to either RSC or a trusted independent. I think it's a bargain if you think about it realistically.

Errr?? I don't think that this one claims to have been serviced - just the opposite, with the additional note that the stem/movement do not hack. Can't see much of the bracelet in my downloads. So, add about $500, plus a contingency for misc parts ($), and see how that fits your budget. Unfortunately, its not hard to get into several hundred bucks of work on a Rolex project watch. This one is traditional, but not very rare or collectible, either. JMHO. Good luck!

he's local to me and a good guy. i would buy this in a heartbeat if i wanted a TT DJ. it needs work, but it has a box and some goodies. the band is all there and he is including extra links. i dont see the problem. hte date wheel sticking is oftne a symptom of a movement needing a bad cleaning. however, if its more complex, then the parts are a pain to source. still a great deal at less than 1250 IMO

I think his point is that, If you buy this one unserviced and have it serviced, then you will have a watch you know has been serviced. Many sellers out there are pretty vague about the service needs of watches, saying they "run great".

I agree that this watch looks pretty good. Sure, you don't know how much the service bill will run but the case looks fine to me.

And the bracelet... he did included photos of the removed links, so it could very well be complete as he says, i.e. all link pieces come with the watch and can be re-attached if necessary.

The only issue I see here is that it's unclear how much a service will be but on the other hand he's not asking for a wildly insane amount of money.

Scratched crystal... well it's plexi so that's not really a problem.

Thanks for all the comment / advice. Since this is in Canada, it is easier for me to get it here. My plan is to have the quickset fixed and see how the timekeeping goes. I have around $700-$900 budgeted for the service.

I really want to hear how this works out for you. Especially since i am going to run up the bidding! Kidding, i hope you win it for 1400 or less and get a nice deal on it.

even if you bought a mint watch, the shipping coudl cause something to break. i am spiritual about always fixing watches i buy sight-unseen through the mail.

I agreed that the case doesn't look like it has been polished since it left Geneva in the early '80s. The watch looks normal (including the bracelet) and not beat up at all for being 30 some years old. A light case and bezel polish, movement service, a new plastic crystal or polish the same one on the watch, and you have a really decent/nice DJ on that wrist that will last a lifetime.

Hi Vernon,

IMO there a hundreds of nice clean serviced DJ's out there around the $1500 - $1800 mark which is where you are heading with this one.

I would pass on it.

I'm not a fan of the dial - prefer the white romans.

I was watching this and it had 7 bids, and bid price stopped at $1,826.00. Wow! I didn't even join the bid as I decided not to go for it.
