Dodging Walls
With so much of the Royal Oak's beauty lying in its perfectly finished surfaces and facets, one must be reasonably careful to not introduce his watch to too many walls or tables.
![]() But at the same time, you've got to enjoy your watch and not sweat it too much... My question is: are there any parts of the RO that one should be particularly careful with? Parts that, if scuffed, are harder to restore come time for servicing? Or does servicing tend to eliminate just about any scuffs anywhere? |

I know you can only get the bezel rebrushed I think ~5 times from AP before you need a new bezel. I would ONLY ever have AP touch the watch...especially in regards to the finish.
I actually conciously turn my wrist (watch) inward to my side when I walk through doorways and such now...unlike when I wore my DSSD. Even as conscience as I am....Sh*t happens... (9 o'clock on bezel..) I wear it because I love it. Life moves on. ![]()

That's good to know, thanks. I can imagine that they can rebrush the flat surface pretty well, but how about the facets/edges/corners? Have you guys ever had a scuff to those worked out?
Can they handle scuffs to the case pretty well too? |

They can clean up the whole watch extremely well....for a price. Look a page or two back and you will see some older RO that was sent back and refinished. Looks great!

Very graphic title and a daily problem for most RO wearers.
The bezel is the most vulnerable part. Building walls can be so roughly textured that a big hit could damage an edge. It would be difficult for AP to polish away a deep ding. Credit AP with trying to address the issue. The Rubber Clad did that by substituting a less expensive and more pliable material. Forged carbon addressed that in a different way. Ceramic is supposed to be nearly indestructible. I agree with Mike about getting a ceramic RO. Perhaps AP will introduce other colors in ceramic for those who are averse to wearing a black watch. That seems more likely than buildings being finished in soft materials. |

Due to the steel bezel of the diver, I would trade in my Diver towards a SS44 for a dail,y if I had the spare pennies to do so.

I suspected the AP design begged for more dings vs Rolex...but such is life. It does make me think about how often I'd wear one.

It's all about situational awareness (and a little luck). My RO has worn well over 2yrs of regular wear.
