Gotta say I love the colours rolex have used but orange would be terrible, for me white would make it look like a women's watch so as a supposed masculin tool watch also terrible. Green, blue and black fine

So you think a white dial, Explorer II looks feminine?

Orange has an advantage under water. This is a modern classic by Doxa. Orange rocks.

I kinda like Rolex as well. While I don't own a Doxa, I do have a SEIKO Orange Monster.

Why do you say Orange would be terrible. If it's not your favorite color, that's one thing. But you offer nothing to back up this assertion.

The color has proven to be very easily seen in murky water. Seems to me that's a pretty important function of a dive watch.

Thanks Cabaiguan!

No because the bezel isn't white as well

Firstly I never said anything about you not liking rolex, not sure why you even pointed that out

If you are in murky water surely that's what the lume is for, and surely that would show best on a black dial? Look bottom line is I'm no expert and to be honest I don't think the hulk and smurf subs are really about diving

Rolex's are about classic understated style (ok sometimes they lose the plot and bring out rainbow daytonas etc) and for me orange is just a bit...cheap looking. It's the same reason you wouldn't buy a orange Mercedes unless you were crazy.

I do. I just don't take them serious...

I know everyone has a pic of a watch that they think will prove me wrong or change m mind but its not going to happen.

I remember when the only Subs that had colored dials were the fake ones...I guess that is what I associate them with.

Opinions welcome.
Strange thread since you list an LV as one of your watches I'm confused as to your musings on color especially if you really do own a Green LV. My opinion on colored dials is to each his own ,love the Blue dials, especially the Tudors. I'm also of the opinion based on your wording " I know everyone has a pic of a watch that they think will prove me wrong or change m mind but its not going to happen." that perhaps you enjoy creating controversy and confrontation. You asked for opinions that mine.

I like the various dial variations we are seeing in the Subs, however that being said, I personally prefer black. I think the blue dial looks great, and really am starting to like the green one.

Again...to each his own!
White, black and silver are colors.

There just different colors from blue and green.

Off topic, but this post reminds me of a guy at work who only wears all black... Everyday for the 6 years that I've known him. You know I like creativity and making things work that others may not have considered... Sometimes colors look great and others times it's a fail, but it's fun trying. In regards to the topic, blue dials are my favorite, hands down.

No, that's not what the lume is for...the lume assiststs legibility during darkness, but one can be in turbid water, with plenty of ambient light, and the lume is completely ineffective. in those cases, that's where dial color can make a difference. The real issue with color is more about contrast, than the color itself. Light colored dials, with black hands, function best.

In my opinion I was talking about the "look" of the ICON the Sub. I agree there are great Orange Dials (Doxa, Seiko) out there but would we want to see the Submariner Orange?

Maybe cheapen like I said in OP rubs some the wrong way but that's just what the fingers typed...Will the Submariner be the ICON that is once was when there is a Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Red, Black, White and Silver dial'd version?? I don't think so...

Not a good idea to post pics of replicas and especially not links to that sort of website - and it's against the forum rules

okay, now I like that, I switch dials on my watches all the time. I have a black 2tone sub that was blue for years, I just switched it back to black, my wife wanted diamonds on her dials so that is what she got put on..it is all good!!

My absolute favorites are the rolex hulk with a green dial and Speedy broad arrow with white dial.

I ignored the Sub and other watches like it for so long because it was a black dial, I thought I would not like wearing it. Thats why I liked the GMT with the colored bezels, but now that option is gone!
So sad :(
If I could afford it I would get the Blue WG. Blue is my favorite.
But I turned around and started looking at Subs a couple of years ago, and finally bought one and now I love it! Just proves you sometimes don't know what's good for you. So you may love a colored dial one day if you let yourself?

Yeh like I said I'm no expert on the best dials for diving and if orange is best...I still don't want to see an orange sub and yeh I totally welcome your greater knowledge on the best dials for diving. However I don't really think even the black sub is really about diving anymore, it's just a lovely prestige item. So having an orange sub is not for me going to do the brand any favours, in fact that would make it look like a £100 ice watch which again is not cool on a £5600 watch
