Definition of gaining/losing seconds?
Hey guys, as I'm still fairly new here and getting acquainted with my first watch I was just wondering about this noob question :
What does it mean exactly when your watch gains seconds? Does that mean it's running fast? (like it hits 8:03:34 when the "real" time is 8:03:30) And is a gain of seconds usually marked by +3 sec/day? My problem is because technically, when you "gain" seconds, you could also define it like you have more seconds per day, e.g. 63 seconds in the span of a "real" minute of 60 seconds. But then this would mean that the watch is running slow, thus -3 sec/day? I know I'm overthinking it , but was just curious on the standard that you all define it by. Thanks! |

Er, yes. Gaining seconds means the watch is running fast. Losing seconds means the watch is running slow.

Since you cannot physically "gain" any seconds in a day; your postulation that you "gain" anything from a slow running watch is flawed..

Give yourself 24 hours from the time that you regulated your watch.
Check to see if there is a difference. If so, the watch may be running fast or slow - which will then affect accuracy. |

Well if a slow running watch gives us extra time in life I want to run a hour a day slow.

I think I'd run about 23 hours and 59 minutes slow every day!
