114060 - where is the love?

I think most of the people who are skeptical about the 114060 are those who prefer the older versions because they grew up with that -- nothing wrong with that, people are usually more attached to things they've grown accustomed to over the years and are more skeptical to change.

That being said, I would've gotten the 114060 without question if it weren't for the Explorer I 214270. I think new submariner owners, unless they like vintage stuff, should and probably usually goes for the new 114060 over the 14060m....the upgrades make it worth it!

I got no complaints so far...
I like the fat lugs, chunkier case, updated bracelet and maxi dial and hands.
Only complaint would be the price... lol

I absolutely love my D Serial 14060 and will never flip it for the new one, HOWEVER if I had never seen the older models I would think the new one was just great. I love the glossy intensity of the ceramic bezel and the quality of the new bracelet and clasp. I can see that the new case and dail is more 'contemporary' even though I maybe enjoy the 'elegance' of the old style. I get the feeling that younger people will like the 'chunkiness' of the new model better. It's all about your personal taste, isn't it.

I love the 114060! I always had an appreciation for the 14060, but once Rolex added the upgrades.... Perfect.

I love the ceramic. As soon as I saw the Sub-C (either date or no date), the old submariner just looked dated to me. It's still a stunning watch, but I dig the ceramic. Especially how it shines. given that I absolutely love DJ, it's not surprising that I prefer the ceramic Subs.

i absolutely love my 114060.

it is so fantastic i never take it off.

i dont regulate it at all (though i will now i've learnt how to) and i reckon it runs something like -0.5 s per day. and thats out of the box.

re: price i bought grey and got one for less than $6,500 AUD. i'm thrilled with that.

re: negative comments i can't say i've seen many, although re: new rolex's there certainly are some who have no love for the lug's etc. i hear people saying the new design is chunky and maybe it is in comparison to the older cases. the best take i have seen on the aesthetics of the 114060 so far is a blog post on 100% rolex. well worth checking out. i especially like his emphasis on the idea that the 114060 is the natural progression of the 5513. for example i like the way there is a contrast between the bracelet width and the lug width. a flash back to pre 14060 models apparently, but that is one of the things i see criticised by some.

Edit: ... and I'm a vintage guy on the whole, having two 1665 Sea-Dwellers, and have owned several 5513, etc. And I still much prefer the 114060 over the 14060m which I had previously.

I agree. I respect all the guys who love the earlier iterations of the sub, and so do I....but this watch I think is a well thought out evolution, with subtle but substantial improvements.

and all this chatter about lug size and boxy just misses the point. The watch continues to evolve and gets more substantial. IMHO it hasnt been a "tool" watch since jaques cousteau was paying about $200 for them.

I find things to like in each generation of subs, and as well looking back find things not as great. The early bracelets coveted for being vintage but are tinny compared to today's - there is no comparison. Today's bracelet is amazing A 70 s bracelet is cool, maybe hard to find but not amazing

I don't really care what other people think but I do wish the folks who disparage this model would give it a chance..if you a a sub lover there is nothing NOT to embrace about this version..I think it will be viewed very fondly in years to come

I think it's a fantastic looking reference. Frankly I prefer all the upgrades on it versus the previous generation. I will say though, I prefer the case design of the 14060 if you want to wear your sub with other straps. I'm not a big fan of the new maxicase on leather/nato etc, but absolutely love it on the bracelet.
