Does the president get a new rolex when elected.
I was told some time ago that when a new president is elected he is given a new rolex by the rolex company. I was told that is why the bracelet is called a president. Any one know if that is true.

An interesting side note: President Johnson was being interviewed by Walter Cronkite [spelling?] when the president commented on Walter's watch. He told Johnson it was a Rolex president. Mr. Johnson's indignant reply was; I'm the president, why don't I have one? The next time both gentlemen met president Johnson was wearing a Rolex DD.

Not given to the US president. He goes down to AF and buys it from Alan like the rest of us.

Not to hijack the thread, but I was wondering....
I chop a lot of wood on my ranch down in Texas. Will the chopping stretch the bracelet? Will it affect the movement? If the watch is running 10secs slow per day, should I hold the base of the axe with my left hand or right hand? Should I leave the bezel protector on? |

I suspect you'll see a Rolex go on his wrist after his term is over just as Clinton did when his stay in the oval office was concluded. How am I to believe that the son of a Texas oil man and somewhat successful real estate developer in his own right only owns Timex?? Maybe I'm wrong...

Never did figure out what Bush and slick Willie were afraid of. If anyone got upset over a wristwatch, it would be forgotten in hours. Just like LBJ. It would make no difference at the polls, IMO. Opinions?

Oyster bracelet could have prevented a lot of unnecessary news attention.

I will stick to Dan's version, too.
The Pope wears a DD, too, it is said. Never could spot any DD on his wrist, though!

I think the former Pontifex was presented with a President as with an Il Destriero Scafusia. Nice gifts but I believe they were never worn. A good decision, one must stay humble in a position like that.

Clinton wore the Timex early on,they had or have a Timex building in Arkansas, don't know if they assembled them there or not but it was a good show on his part to the people there who worked there.

Well, his Timex won't cost $75 msrp thats for sure.
I remember reading an article some time ago that somebody was able to remove and steal the Timex from his wrist as Mr. Bush was walking through a large group of people. I guess it goes to show that there is that disadvantage to wearing a leather band watch with no double locking feature.

Actually, Bush's watch was never stolen. There are other angles of his visit that show him taking it off and putting it in his pocket before he starts to shake hands with the crowd.
As to Putin, a guy worth a reported $40 billion can afford alot more than a blinged out DD. |

Maybe Bush just likes Timex's. Not everyone is into luxury watches. The quartz pieces keep great time and are functional. He likes to run a lot, so maybe he has an Ironman to record his splits.
