Rolex Repair - $$$$$

Rolex service center's estimate to repair my 36mm SS/18k Oster perpetual datejust with fluted bezel was $2,430. Over $5,200 for other suggested repairs.

Would anyone have an alternative repair suggestion?

Thank you

Depends on what those repairs entailed.. For a bill that high it must have some issues..

There are many watchmakers who can service your watch for less... some can repair if repairs are needed. Cheaper is not always better or proper..

A few minutes on the Forum will reveal names of several good watchmakers used by members..

$5,200 for all suggested repairs? Just curious what some of the repairs were? Did you need a new bracelet?

What all do they recommend as being required...and what are the other suggested repairs?

Thanks for all of your responses. I am not saying this price is not out of line. I was just surprised at the cost since my local Rolex dealer estimated $900

Yes, they did include the cost of a new bracelet for $5,200.

Here is the break down

factory Movement Services $600
1 x case frame 1603 $1,650
1 x case back $135
shipping $45.50

I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you!

Just take it to Rikki.....whatever it is...he'll be less than RSC.

I removed the watch from my watch winder and noticed it stopped running. My other Rolex in the same watch wider was running fine. My other Rolex is 30 plus years old, a date, and has had no serious problems. RSC said my movement froze due to moisture? I have never had the watch near water. I only wear it work. Never abused. Thank you for your opinions.

If it really needs that much work (which I question), I'd throw it away and spend the $5200 (or less) in a nice minty pre-loved one.

Do yourself a favor and have a good independent take a look.

I'd drop that watch in the trash if it needs that much work.

Its probably pitting corrosion in the where case seal is, this is mainly caused by lack of routine service in most watches. But in most cases it will be fine with a new seal, but Rolex would not give a warranty, hence they want to sell you a new case and back.

RSC Dallas charged me;

600 USD: overhaul, includes movement overhaul, new plexi crystal, polish
30 USD: hour hand replacement
60 USD: minute hand replacement

All the above they stated were mandatory or no dice.

Optional 3400 USD: Jubilee bracelet replacement.

I opted out of the bracelet replacement.

Should be getting the watch back soon.
I went with RSC because the watch had never been serviced, 43 years. So I figured I should establish a service history with Rolex.

Otherwise, I probably would have gone with the names already suggested, Bob Ridley or Rikki.

Rolex service is returning my watch. I can send a picture - but the watch looks brand new. I just cannot believe the cost is that high?

I see....maybe that's the reason. My plans are to get it back form RSC and send to one of the suggested watchmakers. Thanks to those who have offered those names.

You will be happy.. A good repair watchmaker can resurface the back and case and will service the movement as long as you are aware of any possible issues, such as not passing a full pressure test.

Rolex does not ever repair these parts, they replace only and from your list, that is what your major charges are - new case and caseback..

with vintage Rolex , I would rather trust recommended independents than RSC, and the main reason is they would rather replace parts, and as you know the vintage credo- always keep it original!
