Had an interesting conversation today.....

I'm currently trying to sell one of my watches, a discontinued 16613 Serti dial.

The watch was discontinued in 2008.

A guy calls me today asking questions about the watch and then proceeds to tell me he found the same watch I have, Brand New in an AD in Florida.

I proceeded to say, I'm sorry but that isn't the case. I spoke to the AD you mentioned when I was looking for my watch and they said they did not have one.

That's when he said, well, it's a new 2012 watch the some guy special ordered from Rolex.

I again said, that can't be, the dial was discontinued in 2008 and it isn't possible to have ordered that watch four years later.

He got upset when I said this and went on raving about how it was a special order from Rolex and he was a collector and he saw the paperwork about it being special ordered etc and that he was positive it was a 2012 watch.

I said, sir, it may have been taken into their inventory in 2012, but the watch was no longer made past 2008. What you are telling me is the same as going to Honda and telling them you want a 2008 Honda Accord vs. a new 2013 Accord and getting one. It simply wasn't possible.

He got real mad then and offered me half of what I was asking; so, I chuckled slightly and declined his offer. He obviously didn't like me answer so he hung up on me.

Just thought I would share a funny tale; well, at least to me it was.

What nerve...he was hoping to con you into selling for a lower price...little did he know that you would actually know about your watch...and on to the next potential victim the scumbag goes!

If you are going to bull$hit, at least make it reasonable bull$hit. Glad you know your stuff and didn't bite.

Some people have nothing better to do than to give you a low offer and pretend that you don't know what you are talking about.

Nice try by this fella. Lol.

Same in my country. I was selling a watch, then some guy came along and say that he saw another one better condition n cheaper than mine.

I always politely reply he should buy from that seller instead and not miss the deal then; and to help me get one too... lol

Ha. It never ends. Some collector, doesn't even know about the watch he is inquiring about...
