I keep reading that folks would get AP or PP at near Rolex prices. I'd love to know where! IIRC you'd have to double the average cost of a Rolex before getting into some AP & PP.

I already stopped buying Rolex when the price of the Submariner doubled .. I paid 3500 ( 16610). I realize the 116610 is a " newer " model but can't justify the price...besides I prefer the older style.... Rolex would be foolish to think they can double or randomly increase the price without seeing their market share affected... There are only so " many " who could afford them as is, why would I pay for a Rolex when you can truly get a Haute Horology pieces from more distinguished brands ?? Already moved on to AP, JlC and the like... The only way I would buy a Rolex is the Vintage... I'm sure Rolex knows their limits and their demographics.. God knows they spend enough on marketing... I'm certain the current prices is already at their maximum ...

An Audemars Royal oak 15300st could be had in the $9,000-12,000 range, that's Rolex territory. I wear a solid 18k Daytona, there are certainly Patek's in this price range as well...

I see quite a few AP 15400 models on the sales forum here for about what I paid for my stainless steel Daytona.

The issue with PP, AP, A Lange & Sohne etc lies within can you really wear watches like that daily? I've read they're very fragile and need to be treated like pearls - last thing you put on and the first thing you take off.

I wear my Patek and Lange watches the same way I wear my Daytona and Sub. Everyday in a rotation, with no issues ever.

Where did you read that Patek, AP and Lange are fragile? Can you post a link or a source?

If Rolex prices double, don't you think AP and PP will follow suit and also be raising their prices too? I'll keep the ones I have and stop collecting.

I have two Omegas, and with the new pieces they're producing at the current prices, and trying to control the market with their boutique strategy, they sure can give Rolex a run for their money in the coming years.

I own a PO 8500, paid $4,800 dlls new, with a 4 year warranty. Can't beat that.

If I was a betting man I would bet on no increase for 2013. Talk with an AD and they will tell you sales are down. Gold and platinum are down so its not like they are losing money. If someone wants to take me up on the offer send me a PM.

I don't think it's an issue of durability. I had an Ap 15400 for a while and although it was a beautiful piece, and certainly rugged enough... I found myself being too cautious about wearing it daily. That's not about the watch's construction though. It's just so finely finished that I was worrying about marring any of the surfaces. I wasn't wearing it as one should, so I flipped while it was still pristine.

Can't speak for Lange or Patek but AP and JLC can certainly be worn as dailies.

If Rolex doubled their prices today - I would just look for a nice used one from one of the TRF trusted crew.

Not sure who's whining but at some point doesn't every one have a price increase. Most of us get a raise every year that means staffing costs increase and the chain begins.

Its unfortunate really, that anything mass-produced, of SS, made for $800 (?) or so, should cost $7500+. It shows how well Rolex' marketing machine has beaten us all. In truth, these watches are only worth what they are due to the artificial market that Rolex creates. Nothing more, nothing less. IMHO of course.

I inquired about the next price increase with my AD yesterday and he said they basically get no warning. It seems like one might be coming as the last one was June, 2012. Are all the watches in current inventory marked up to the new prices immediately?

Yes all watches in the ADs possession are marked up to any new price listing.
