I was at the AD and tried on this...

I am really liking the way the Yachtmaster feels and it's simplicity. I am a little confused though. The one I tried on was the 16622. It has the green lume, and stamped Clasp that you can only adjust with a special tool that pokes out the pin. Not good on the fly like the glidelock, or ratcheting clasp on the Sub.

I asked If I could change the clasp and she said, "Any changes made to the clasp or otherwise voids the warranty, and Rolex can decide not to service it."

Is that true?

One of the downfalls IMHO is that it does not have an adjustable strap.

1. Does anyone own a Yachtmaster 16622 and feel that the lack of adjustability on this watch make it uncomfortable during the day like in the afternoon when one's wrist swells a bit?

2. In Rolex E-brochure from Rolex.com they don't have the Silver faced 40mm any longer. Does this mean I will have to find an old model in a Rolex store or purchase used, or that Rolex isn't manufacturing it any longer?

3. Do the New ones have the Blue lume?

4. Any information or tips from those who own one would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe it's just me but I seriously doubt your wrist can swell enough to me a watch uncomfortable....

Yes, RSC can refuse to service modified watches.
I've never found the 16622 the least bit uncomfortable. No less than any older Rolex with stamped clasp anyways.
Rolex has slightly updated the 116622 with the Easylink clasp and endlinks in the platinum dial.
Yes, blue lume appears to now be the norm.

You can always replace the clasp if you can find one.

Love the blue dial Yachty. The platinum dial looks a bit one-dimensional. Rolex bracelets have always been comfortable for me...even the older style tuna can clasps.

On the Rolex website it seems that you can only get the 116622 in a Blue faced dial with platinum bezel or TT with a grey face.

it looks like I will have to buy pre-loved for more options.

Other than the new clasp, Is there any years I should look for that maybe have better internals?


Thanks for pointing that out Kilyung! It seems that the AD I went to had old stock because Rolex website does say, " Folding Oysterlock safety clasp with Easylink 5 mm comfort extension link."

I believe the platinum dial yatchmaster in 40mm is updated with the new clasp and blue lume. I saw it a couple of months ago at an AD.

You are probably wearing it a little too tightly if swelling of your wrist is the issue. Good luck...

Ive had both This and a YG version and love them both for the very reason you mentioned. As for...Lume...could not care less.

Not trying to put you off but I avoided the YM1 after seeing a YG one someone was wearing and he obviously wore it day-in and day-out for many years (which is a good thing) and while the rest of the watch looked ok, the bezel itself looked appalling. I can't really explain it but it didn't look good...

Does anyone have any pics of how the bezel looks after many years of wear? It might help the OP with his decision (and I don't mean safe queens, I mean REAL wear).

I hope it was just a Replica...lol! I think I may have seen one like that as well, and jut felt that I could just have it refinished every 5 yrs. However, I did read where on both the platinum and the YG, they are both only, "Coated" with either precious metal.

You know the Daytona also has a similar comfort wearing aspect as the yachtmaster. The new 50th anniversary solid platinum is nice as well...

I really need to spend more time figuring it out.

Did the model 16622 come with solid bracelet?

You are right the platinum faced Stainless is not on the web site. There was a time recently when it showed both the blue and platinum face in the 116622. Sounds like a platinum face 116622 might be a collectors item. I have the blue face 116622 and the band is great deal better than the previous version. Better clasp and hidden extension piece.

Not all combinations/dials are on the website. If the platinum dial 116622 is discontinued, it should still be easy to find as it was never a hot seller.

To OP: if you are really considering buying that NOS 16622, make sure you get a great deal on it!

This is true, the Bezel gets really banged up after a while.
