Need help...buying SS DJ
I have found a vintage datejust with a hard to find dial (charcoal jubilee w/ arabic numbers) that I have been looking for. The only problem is it is the reference 16200 with smooth bezel. I want this watch with a fluted bezel found on reference 16233. I have been looking on and off for this watch for 4 or 5 years to no avail. I have attached a web photo of the watch I am looking for. There are not even too many photos of this watch on the web.
How hard will it be for me to buy this watch and source a WG fluted bezel? I am beginning to think this will be easier than sourcing the complete watch as it left the factory or even just the dial I am looking for. I don't think Rolex will swap the bezels for me since it will change the reference number. Also, they probably won't service this watch in the future if I do make the bezel switch. I am looking for some advice on what I should do. Thanks in advance for your 2 cents...lol |

Finding a WG fluted bezel would be much easier than finding the precise 16234 with that dial.
Plus - even if you did find one, who's to say if the condition and service history would be acceptable. You are right about Rolex not servicing it - but you could always have the domed bezel refitted before sending it in. Most indie watchmakers here on TRF wouldn't care about the bezel mismatch and that would be another service option. Methinks you should go for it! WG fluted bezels can be had for less than $500 on eBay and here on TRF. I saw one on Beckertime recently, too.
