Tudor Fastrider

Hello guys and gals of TRF!

It seems like forever since I last posted here!!

I am looking to make a new addition to the stable. Not 100% on the buy since funds are somewhat limited but it seems like something I could appreciate and wear until i get fairly old :)

I am a big ducati enthusiast and took notice that they now sell the Tudor Fastrider in the US. My knowledge of this watch is very limited but so far I believe it is just a poor mans Daytona (not of bad quality at all but rather cheaper).

The daytona has always been my holy grail when it comes to watches but my father picked up a 1997 Zenith series a few months back and there is no point in buying another one since there is one in the fam already (not that I could afford it either way ). I think the Fastrider would be a nice addition to my small collection.

Any ideas on what kind of discounts you can get of this watches? I remember the rule of thumb for Rolex was 10% +/- for SS and 15%-20% for gold but not sure it applies to Tudor in any way since they are way cheaper and markups may be low. I will be going this evening to Brown and Co. and see what it is all about.

Also, I would appreciate if anyone could give me a brief educational chat to learn about this watch. Something tells me that there is more (or less) to these watches than being a rebranded Daytona.

It is not a poor man's Daytona. Rolex is changing the strategy of Tudor. No longer the cheaper Rolex, but more a brand on its own. The Daytona uses an in-house Rolex movement, whereas Tudor uses an ETA-movement. Finish is almost on par with Rolex.

It is a great option IMHO. But my watchmaker tells me servicing the ETA is a little more fiddly than the Rolex in-house. So keeping it on top of COSC could be a little more work. Otherwise same functionality and that counts for a lot.

I like the Fastrider. I bet it makes a Ducati rider a bit faster... I need one then.

So, any ideas on the cost and time intervals of servicing the ETA7753?

My old breitling has the ETA 7750 and it was terrible until after its first service. It would die even while wearing it. Right now the stage in the crown to change the date doesn't work but then again I think I broke it years ago and this watch hasn't seen service since a looooong time... (a little ashamed).

I hope I really like it and I can get some kind of discount because even though it is cheaper than the Daytona is still a hefty price for me.

:) Already crashed one too many ducatis trying to be fast on them! My dirty work is done in a suzuki at the local racetrack I must admit I'll wear it while riding around town on my duc

Tried one on while in Milan not too long ago. Really liked it and it has great wrist presence. Can't beat the 7753 (or 7750), a renown movement that's been well proven.

Gorgeous! Not sure about the 42mm instead of 40mm size but it is beautiful :). Can't wait another second till i get there tonight....

Ok so bare with me. This is the part when I start losing my mind and impulse comes into play. Reality is no longer real and I make decisions based on what I want and my brain plays dead.

Is this a good offer?

The watch: USD$3,675.00 before taxes with NATO band (no bracelet)
The offer: USD $3,600.00 OTD w/ Taxes + SS Bracelet ($200 - $300 value)

So if we write it down it comes to

Watch: $3,083.33
Bracelet: $250.00 est.
Tax: $297.33

Grand Total $3,600.00
Discount: 14.3%

Does this seem reasonable or insane of my part? I would offer that as a take it or leave it if I see things going well. I don't want to lowball them because I want to be taken seriously as a buyer not somebody trying to waste their time

I tried one on last week and have to say it felt great on the wrist (steel bracelet) but the only thing I don't like about it is the plaque like name plate.
Would prefer "TUDOR" on the dial instead.
Minor. Wouldn't be a deal breaker

I've had my eyes on this one. Waiting til it hits my AD. This is my next watch. The black ceramic looks great.

This might be the least appealing Tudor to me. Not that I am against ceramic cases but I don't like this particular all black dial with the red markers. Show it to me in white and maybe I get interested. The Omega Dark Side of the Moon blows the Black Shield away in the looks department IMO.
