Someone can correct me if I flub, but here goes...
The Subs have ETA movements which have been modified by Panerai. There are a number of different models, and they vary in price, depending upon size, case type, features, and depth ratings. Here are some models you will want to investigate: 24 (SS), 25 (Ti), 199 (Waffle dial), 243 (1950 case, and staring me in the face), 194 (47mm, 2500m rating). I'm sure I'm forgetting some models, and there are some that are discontinued (64 "La Bomba" for example), but since 'replaced' with something in the same design ballpark. They are excellent timekeepers. I'd expect servicing to be in the same range as an SD, but hopefully someone more knowledgeable about that will confirm.

You might also check out www.paneristi.com for a wealth of information on the brand.

Hope that helps!
