Does age of the watch matter when purchasing RO?
Hi,
I have an opportunity to purchase a 2005 15300 RO in good condition. I am a bit disappointed to learn that the watch is a 2005, so it's close to 8 years old...compared to say 2011, 2010 which I have no problems accepting. It's like buying a used car, we always choose newer & low KM cars.. Does the same concept work for watches? Are there are differences between RO made then and now...things like clasp? Thanks, |

The clasp had definitely been updated, but that might be the only visible change. I think a big thing is if it's had a recent servicing BY AP.

if it hasn't been serviced by AP, then factor in a few months and $1000 into the price eqn.

Like a car, get the service records. If they're not available, or up to date - consider factoring that in to your offer.

Agreed. If it's been serviced, it's worth considering.

Unless you prefer the newer clasp, you should be in good shape if AP serviced it themselves recently. If it hasn't been, I'd be a little concerned that, even if you factor in a typical servicing cost, you could emf up finding out it needs extra work when you send it for servicing. Not sure how likely that is to happen, but who knows.. |

If it's properly maintained there's no reason not to get a slightly older one.

I agree without a recent service Id be wary. Theres a good post/sticky at the top of the main page about the pitfalls of buying a used AP.

If it's been recently serviced at AP it wouldn't put me off.
