1675 Help
Hi all, i need help for my 1675 (5mill). The GMT hand worries me. Can someone chime in? It seems to me that the dial and hands has been replaced. I don't think the date wheel has been replaced though. Got it for $5,300.

The pictures do not do the watch justice. It is difficult to tell if the hands are a bit patinaed than the dial.
Looks like a very thick case and a very nice example - Congrats! |

Another case . . . what now . . .
Not a 'connoisseur' but according to me : dial and hands have been replaced Both are way to white for a 1675 . . . no patina at all . . . Or (and than my apologies) my MBA is really wrong or your pictures . . . . Take care HAGOne |

Hands get replaced and/or repaired all the time. You lost me concerning your anxiety on whether the hands were replaced or the date wheel was replaced. All are service items and get replaced on many watches.

It is a Mark IV dial found at the end of the production 1675s. The same dial coronet is also found on the early 16750 matte dials.

Looks alright for the price. Some parts replaced but that is fairly normal.

From what I see case looks real fat. Think insert is a replacement but very nice. Rest is hard to tell by these photos. Enjoy your real nice 1675 John, IMHO this dial shown in the top is definitely NOT a MK IV! It's a tritium service replacemant version! Have a look at the alignment of AHC, the coronet and the "R" of ROLEX! Talking about GMTs it's really hard talk about MK-version because there are different opinions about MK IV, MK V, MK 0, MK 2,5... And it's hard to say which dials can be put in which serial range. There are many opinions and discussions about this. So if we then call them MK-Versions here is my personal understanding of the 1675 MKs: MK I, MK II and MK III are really easy to identify. MK I (Long L and E in ROLEX): MK II (Short and thick L in ROLEX, very wide and Thick coronet): MK III (Asia/Radial/Mini Dial - Plots are more in the middle and slighty smaller than in all other versions): MK IV (alignment of A/H/C in MASTER/CHRONOMETER/CERTIFIED straight in one line, wide and "flat" coronet, alignment of E/D in CHRONOMETER CERTIDIED the D is a little left from the E, top of "R" in ROLEX is flat: MK V (alignetment of A/H/C -C is a little more on the left side, A and H one line, the top of "R" in ROLEX is flat, alignment of E/D in CHRONOMETER CERTIFIED the D is more on the right side: Service dial: Tritium service dial |

Buenosdias, thanks for the pictorial reference on the MK versions. I assume the progression is numeric--i.e., MK1 precedes MK2, etc.--but if anyone has deciphered the SN or date placement of each MK in general terms it would be helpful. I don't mean a precise range but just a general reference, like MK1 dials falling between 1967-1970, which I think is close.
Also, what about the dials that preceded it, like watches with PCG? Do these have an MK reference?

The dial from the original post is what I call a W-5, which is the 5th variation of the 1675 dial and the last dial found on the 1675. Some called it a replacement dial, which it is not. Below are photos of the W-5 dial and the service dial. I believe others called the dial a Mark IV, that is why I referred to it as a Mark IV. When I placed a thread here months ago on the GMT dials, I refrained from using the Mark numbers because they were too confusing and not correct.
There are three 1675 service dials, two are marked swiss - T <25 and one is marked swiss. One is tritium and the other two are luminova. Here is my post on the dials: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=316726

But please have a closer look at the top of the "R" of ROLEX and the alignment of the A/H/C of GMT MASTER CHROMOTER OFICIALLY CERTIFIED The coronet of the dial shown in the original post is taller an thinner. They both look nearly identical, but they aren't! It's definitively not the dial W-5. I tried to mark the points in red.... ORIGINAL POST W-5 Dial IMHO it's a different dial. What do you think John? Best regards, Sebastian |

Thanks, Nicholas.
Would be very intersting for me to hear some more opinion if the dial shown in the first post is service dial or not. Can anyone clear out which time of production can be put to the MKs? |

I would have the OP verify the serial number and model. Dial resembles the first version of the 16750 dials. See link below..
Who knows, it could still be a 1675 but someone had the feet removed and taped/glued the dial onto the movement.. http://www.rolexforums.com/showthrea...+dial+variants |

I'd take a wild guess and say it's likely a service dial.
