Wife/GF gives an aftermarket present

Hi all... Big quagmire.. I received an after market diamond bezel for my 18038 YG DD from the best wife ever... Not gaudy, just a 1.5 total ct but, how do I handle this if I am 50 50 on it's install ?

Seems an odd thing to give someone without prior discussion...kind of a speicialised item. How did this happen?

If it were me I'd let her know how thoughtful she is for the gift but it's not exactly what you wanted and would it be alright to return it and use its value towards what it is you actually want.
I know with my wife she would want me to get what it is I wanted and be truly happy that's why I end up purchasing my own gift that way I get exactly what I want, I'm happy with it and at the end of the day that should be what the gift was intended for.

Hard to say. Did she say "if you don't like it..." before giving. My wife always says that as sort of get out of jail free card.

I think she will understand I just hope it is returnable or at least you can get store credit.

I think it was a very nice gesture.....and one that would need a bit of research, no?

Good point Adam.. Yes, it is not easy to buy a bezel, her research, I imagine, was exhaustive for her as she is O C D at all levels ha ha... But man... Hate birthdays at all levels.. Lol

A very kind gesture that did require research. But I can understand the hesitation, though. I have an idea, tell her that you love it, but you'd be afraid to wear it to Commander's or Delmonico, lest you be knocked in the head for it.

Wife/GF? Does that mean you got two presents? Jk.

I'd say that if the bezel is not gaudy and the diamonds are of good quality, I'd look for occasions to install the bezel.

Personally, I don't think diamond bezel fall into the daily driver category, but there must be some way to please your generous wife and add a little spice to you watch for special occasions.

Eeek, bit of a tough one. My girl wouldn't touch watch stuff (other than maaaaybe) accesories like travel cases with a ten foot pole because she's knows I'm pretty obsessed and spend a lot of time writing and talking about them. If it is a watch you don't often wear in rotation or just for big events you could just use if for that?

Depends on your relationship honestly, that's a very specific gift, requiring lots of research. Did you accidentally talk about diamond bezels or something with her at some point in a way that made her think you might be interested? If, as you say, it is totally out of the blue, if it were me I'd thank her to death but honestly tell her I'd like to get something else (and maybe secretly use a little of the money to get her something too, like some diamond earrings.

Just be honest it's always the best. Tell her you think it is too much on your gold watch and You will now need to buy a two tone datejust to put it on lol

Agree with all comments, if that gets too tough sign her up to TRF with a cute user name and we can send her a link to the post......... just kidding, I think she will understand, why not offer that she return the dial and you take a weekend away with the money returned.

TRF has the most genuine, funny people on earth... Thanks all, love the humor, and suggestions here... Will most likely go with the installation, then after about 6 months, will tell her it is too much for my taste,...then say, let's go get you some earrings

Most men don't like diamonds on their watches so for her to buy one secretly for you must have meant she thought you have given some indication to liking them. Otherwise this is a strange act to put it kindly...

Either way it is your watch and I would politely tell her it's not for you.

Install the bezel and give her the watch
That's probably her evil plan.

I know most on here are anit-bling espically aftermarket, but you really don't have enything to loose. A bezel install is about the easiest mod possible, and completely reversible. A diamond bezel looks appropiate on a DD. Now if she bought you an aftermarket diamond bezel for your sub/GMT/daytona then you might want to consider another Wife/GF.

This is a tricky one, and as others have said it all depends on your relationship with your wife.

For instance I was rude enough to exchange the very first gift that my wife (then GF) gave me... she was upset at first but then she understood my genuine intentions. After that, we always discuss together gifts and we have fun hunting them down together. In the long run it is working for us!

This being said, is this bothering you because it is a non original Rolex part or because of the diamonds?
