I don't know why I am biased against quartz watches. I guess becoming a WIS and enjoying the artistry of the automatic movements has really caused me to consider quartz watches a shortcut or cop out. There is nothing wrong with them. It just comes down to personal preference.

There is great convenience and some piece of mind to be had in owning quartz watches...I have a few, none omegas though, but I wear them for more active things and just occasionally taking one out and not needing to wind or set is a great luxury...would love to own an x33. and a 2221.80 bond quartz, two watches I have loved a lot...but I will always have an auto or hand wound to enjoy.and remember What I truly love about watchmaking...quartz is more of a purpose based object, that also looks beautiful if well designed, but mechanical is more 'artistic',so to speak... both have their place in a collection. :)

seriously, way to funny, like you see any of that with a solid case back, like on all Rolex's.....99.99999999999999999% of people could not tell the difference in the quartz and mechanical Omega's

OP Update:

Sorry have been off this forum for a while. I completely agree with most of the sentiments shared here and appreciate them. What really intrigued me to start the thread was when I saw that Rolex used to make Quartz and even Patek! That was when I didn't know that Quartz, in the 70-80's, represented the "future" of watches at that time. Not so much anymore.

I was at Tourneau (never go there; they screw you over and have horrible CS) and saw a few Co-Axial Omegas with exhibition backs. Completely beautiful and intricate.

But now the real question -- Does a modified Swiss ETA on an OMEGA or TAG really cost $2 worth of circuitry?? Or even $30? I'd think that a Swiss ETA would be a little higher quality than a Japanese ETA on any common watch, like a low end Seiko.

P.S. -- I realize that my original post was kinda dumb in retrospect. Still kind of a newb to automatics, but now that I own 5-6 autos, I can see the appeal. But one of them crapped out lately so an overhaul is going to be costly...
