What about late-model 5513's? I've got an early 80's piece with the white gold surrounds, and they seem to be the stepchild of 5513 collectors. I've been thinking about possibly selling it to offset the cost of either a Daytona or DSSD Blue, but the possibility of a future spike in value has me torn. I'm sure I'm in the minority, but to my eye it's the most elegant (if you could use that word to describe any Sub) with the dressier dial, domed crystal, and slimmer profile than the later models. Any predictions on whether these will gain some momentum?

I think the matte dial is largely where the momentum comes from, but opinions, tastes, and trends change, so who knows.

Its really a matter of personal preference. Personally I'm not a fan of the white gold surrounds and prefer the simplicity of the earlier 5513's. They clearly have the eyes of most collectors for a variety of reasons. But if you like the look of the late models better thats all that really matters.

Buy what you like, not what others like. As to what the future will hold, short of a crystal ball its all a guessing game.

As much as I like looking and drooling over mint 5513s I just can't justify spending almost the same amount as to what il be paying for a bnew subC no date. Which of course have a lot of detractors about it's other features , esp. the square lugs...maybe someday if I can find one with a good price

5513 MF love the dial and superdome, I'm really glad I have this in my stable.
