First purchase advice please

I am about to make my first Rolex purchase and would welcome some advice please. I fancy either a Submariner or a GMT master II. I have been told by a local AD that the GMT master with either the red/blue or black/red bezels have become desirable and that if I can locate one of these it would be not only a great watch but also a sound investment. I was thinking of maybe the later model but I do also really like either of the above models. Any advice would be appreciasted.

Try them both on at your local AD and see which one catches your own eye more than the other. That is the one I would purchase.

If you travel I would go with the GMT...I prefer the red/black.......



If you spend a lot of time on the water, go with the Sub..

Neither are investment grade. Both are nice watches....try them both on and get the one you like the most.

I actually use the GMT on every trip that involves a time zone change. If you travel a lot, you'll enjoy how easy it is to use and how functional it is.

I have a GMTII non-ceramic and love it.

Both are great watches, don't buy to sell later, buy to wear and enjoy and you wont be able to sell it, it just wont let you.

I actually wear my older GMT over my Sub & GMT II. I don't know why I just really like it & it's very comfortable to wear everyday. Please don't go by what any of us say, buy the one that YOU really like!

They wear differently so try them both on and take the one that winks at you and feels the most comfortable.

While I really like the concept of the GMT's dual time zones, and travel frequently enough for it to be quite useful, I also use the bezel on my SD and Sub to time things very often, such as when cooking, etc.

You're only asking for trouble when you ask this group for advice. Each of us has his/her favorite. But only you can decide which is the best one for you.

There are actually some good suggestions here, the best of which is take each one for a test drive. One will smile at you more. That's the one to go with. Don't worry about investment grade. No watch by itself is a good investment. They're made to be worn, unless you're a retailer, where you can by wholesale and sell retail. As a one off seller, you will always lose money if you flip.

So go with what you want to wear. Oh, and make it an all black GMT-II.

yep - there's no answer you're going to find here that is the right answer for you. this is purely a matter of opinion. they're both beautiful watches in their own way. put each one on your wrist, take a good look and then buy the one you feel looks best.

i would not look at either of these watches as an investment grade watch. buy what you'll love putting on your wrist every morning.

I have had both watches (gmt with coke and pepsi dial) but I personally prefer this one.. neither is an "investment" because you will probably upgrade or sell for something else long before it meets any investment potential (like the rest of us around here who seem to flip often). The most important thing is that it meets your individual needs and desires...but if you look around this site long you will find that the multiple purchase bug bites very quickly!!

I love both models and to me that is one of the most difficult comparisons and decisions to make, a Sub or a GMT?

I think the SUb is still the best watch to purchase if you're getting your first Rolex watch. However, I think the best purchase you can make is to go with a watch with its functions that will prove to be the most useful for you.

Meaning, if you will travel a lot, the GMT may be a better buy and of better use for you in terms of functionality. In terms of style, they are both excellent.

In the end, go with the watch that smiles back at you the most when you go to try them on.

Well,both of watches are classics,and similar to guys new to Rolex.I prefer GMT,because second timezone function that can be useful sometimes,but you MUST try both of them and make decission on your own.I can just say that you can`t go wrong with any of them!

Go with what your heart tells you when you put each watch on. I had been looking to purchase a Sub, but put on a GMTIIc the other day and ended up buying it as it felt just right. I love the watch.

The Submariner is a beautiful watch, but if you can fine the GMT II Pepsi/Coke I would go for it.

My advice is go for GMT II 16710 first. Rolex already discountinue it.
