Right or left?

So, winding crowns were originally designed on a watch's right side to allow easy winding by the right hand, assuming most people are right handed and the watch is worn on the left. But daily winding has gone the way of the telephone land line and yet the crown remains on the right. Meanwhile, I've noticed an inordinate number of watch photos here worn on right wrists.

My question: is there a preference or a rationale to wearing on the right? Does left wearing protect the watch better, assuming the right hand is involved in more vigorous activity? (Insert joke here) Or is the right preferred to better display what one can assume is a kick-ass watch?

I wear my watch on the right wrist. Always have, even though I am right handed. Just felt normal to me. As much as I have tried, I absolutely hate the feeling of the watch on my left, even though it is considered the "appropriate" placement (escecially for a right-hander). I was always asked by teachers if it bothered me when writing, and it never did.

I believe many of the photos you are seeing, are of left-handers, who prefer the watch on their right wrist, due to being uncomfortable for them when they write.

Traditionally the opposite side you use to write.
