What is the cheapest Rolex bought in the last 10 years?

OK, I was just wondering which of us has had the best deal when buying a Rolex.

For starters, here's mine. In 1999 I bought a beat-up manual winding Oyster precision in SS with Steel band. I paid just £100 ($300) for it but I spent another £300 ($600) having it serviced and repaired at RSC UK. It came back looking like a new watch.

Anyone else have a story to tell?

Cheers - Simon

Yes Bo, I do.

Here it is. There is now some emotional attachment as my father wore this watch from 1999 until he passed away 2 years ago. It may have been "cheap" but it is priceless to me.

So let's have some other to keep the thread running...

Cheers - Simon

Simon, not in the last 10 years have I managed anything cheap, but in the early eighties I bought an Oyster Royal from a tat cum antique shop in Chester for £3 ( $6 ) and took it ( not working ) to Watches Of Switzerland who serviced it for £21. In those days Rolex would service non-working watches.

£2350 for my Exp II. Cheap or what?

Well it is to me 'cause I sold my business for £103,000,000.
It's all relative.

Multiple levels of hearsay...years ago I had lunch with a client (a somewhat colorful character) who sported a really attractive Submariner. He claimed that one of his co-workers gave him the watch for free. It was apparently completely broken and filthy, so he invested the money to get it in working condition. I'm still not sure whether to believe him.

I paid $100 for this one about 6 months ago. The estimate for complete restoration is $2,500 - $3,000. Should be back in 5 or 6 months.

Well I did pass on a nice sub date for USD$50.00 from a lady at the Day Market in Bangkok. The bracelet was a bit rough to the touch and you could open the oyster by pressing down on the case back with two fingers. The plastic ring holding the movement in place seem innovative though.

Someone sold me a bike that is supposedly broken for $500.00 when I was mobilized in the military during the 911 tragedy. Restored the bike and spent another 80.00 for the paint. Someone ask me for an even trade. His SD for my bike! Authenticated the watch and there you go, got my grail watch for 580.00!
