Question about Submariner (bracelet) history...

Or more precisely, about the dive extension that evolved into the Glidelock.

The question(s) is: Was a dive extension incorporated into the bracelet of the first Sub in 1953, or was it added sometime later? If at a later date, anyone know when that was and was it released with a new reference number for the Sub or did it come out on it's own within the production span of one reference? Lastly, was the first dive extension essentially the same as the version on the 16610, or something different than that?

I think it was the 9315 where the extension made it's debut. That bracelet was used/available for a couple models so the extra details you are asking about I don't know...

The early sub bracelets didn't have the dive extension; I believe they made their debut with the 9315 (early 70's?). I don't think it ever changed from its fundamental design, but the text did change. Some have Pat Pend, some have Pateted, some Patented, and others have nothing but the scroll work on them.
