date change question
The new month came so I went to set the date on my recently serviced 78 1680. The date changed at 11:25 instead of midnight. Is this a serious problem?
Thanks for any input. |

No it is not normal. The date should change at midnight. My guess is that while someone was placing the hands back on the dial after a service or whatever, the hour hand was stacked at the five or six dial marker instead of at the 12 marker. Most watchmakers check to see that the date changes properly after the hands are stacked at the 12 o'clock midnight position. You'll have to remove the movement to properly adjust the hands - which is an inexpensive fix.

No the hands just need taken off and re-setting but as long as it changes by next morning why worry.

I've had this happen on a 1680 after service. The hands were "restacked" and problem solved.
Also I've had a 1680 date wheel out of line, so that it showed half of two numbers. Both problems were easily fixed and haven't reoccurred. Jacek at HQ Milton once told me that date wheel problems were a common occurrence as these watches age. Good luck, should be quick fix!
