The red sub in toronto...one at v r and the other was a private seller both 12k usd no papers.
V R i just had a pretty sour experience at though. Claiming some vintage were all original and when I called out a few things that I've picked up on here and showed them some references pics....we're like oh yeah well this that and the other are replaced but wouldn't move on any prices. Passing off all original when is not isn't really cool. |

Bhutton, they don't let you take pictures ? Clearly something to hide. Run as fast as you can

agreed :)
I'm not saying they're bad for everything, i've gotten some good modern watches at a little better price then watchfinder, and Toronto doens't have a lot of options... Still, Sean @ watchfinder has been really good to deal with 99% of the time.... Thank god i came on this forum though - learnt so much from the resources available in a few weeks - saved me from buying an "all origional" vintage 5512 @ VR though that clearly was not. Also, something scary when dealing with VR, when i asked the vintage specialist about the tudor rose dial 7928 - i said i had seem some discussion that if something breaks, there aren't parts anymore. their response is "we just make a part and put it in" Maybe that doesn't bother others... but given outside physical pieces weren't being disclosed (wrong bracelet, wrong bezel, crown swapped out, etc) .. to me that's terrifying. What stops them from throwing a modern ETA movement in there and calling it a day? (or anything really, but you get the idea) |

I know a watchmaker where I live and he specializes in antique clocks, grandfather clocks, etc. He will manufacture a replacement part if the parts are unattainable. He said he has the tools to manufacture parts to original specs.
A capable watchmaker should be able to make parts that are needed. If non-Rolex parts are used, it should be disclosed in the advertisement and priced accordingly. I guess for rare vintage watches one should service it on a regular basis so that the parts do not get damaged and destroyed. |
