Hi from a new Sub owner - quick question...
Hi all. I am a delighted new Submariner (no date) owner, bought mine in April '08.
A quicky: mine loses between 3 and 4 seconds a day, laying it bezel up at night. My dealer says -4 to plus 6 is acceptable, but I've read that Rolex states that its tolerances are tighter, at -1 to plus 5. I feel like I'm being pedantic, but is -3 to 4 secs acceptable (granted that's amazingly accurate for a little self-winding machine)?? Does anyone have a view?? Cheers Jon |

Welcome to TRF, Jon!
COSC specs are minus 4 to plus 6 seconds, but Rolex adjusts their movements after having received them from the COSC institute. I have not read about Rolex stating that they have the precision tolerances that you mention, though. Minus 4 secs. a day is just on the border of the official COSC specs, but if your Sub ND is CONSISTANTLY losing those 3-4 secs., in fact your watch is very precise. It just needs a regulation. But give it some more time to adjust to your wearing habits. If it is still consistanly losing time after say a month's time, have it regulated. Normally, it can be done by your AD watchmaker while you wait. Another explanation for the watch losing time could be the power reserve. How many hours do you wear it during the day? It could be a question of the movement not getting sufficient power reserve.

Welcome to TRF.
If you aren't happy with the performance of your time-piece you can always have a watchmaker regulate it for you.. However, if you just got it in April, I would let it settle in for a while It is capable of great accuracy if you don't mind having it looked at a couple of times to "zero" it in to what you feel is proper.
