Pleased to be here with my first Rolex.
I'll be asking questions about it for sure.
It's ( I believe ) a 1964 Stainless Datejust with the #1570 calibre movement.
Must be one of the first Datejust models with this movement.
Anyway I'm proud to have it.
Hoping to learn some about the vintage models from the 1960s and their relative worth in the development of the Rolex lineage.

There's plenty of fuel around here, just be careful where you play with the matches, don't forget, even the fumes can cause an exposion of a heartfelt buying frenzy, no mind to speak of. Don't blame me either, I'll be standing in the corner whistling Dixie hiding my wrist

Not as clear as some of the magnificent images posted on this forum, but I'm learning.
Yes, the watch has an Oyster bracelet, the original gave out with the original owner some 5 years ago and was replaced when the watch went to Rolex Service. My local watchmaker mentioned he saw 8 previous service marks in total. The watch is currently running +2 seconds a day. Testimony to the 1570 Calibre perhaps.

Welcome Richard, I thought I said hello before but I can't see my post, maybe I pushe the wrong button.

Your DateJust is a Rolex Model 1603 and it will have probably a 1575 movement.

They are excellent robust timekeepers that have stood the test of time and will decades more enjoyment left to go.

I hope you like the forums, are you from north or south Tassie?

Hi Steve,
Southern Tassie, near Hobart.
The movement is a 1570 , shame I didn't have my camera when I was at the watchmakers when he renewed the acrylic crystal and seal, as a safeguard before doing a pressure test.
Case is a 1603 ( as you'd expect ) dating from 1964 according to the numbers, which have worn over the years.
I'm very pleased with its looks and time keeping ability. Beats the pants off a Bell & Ross I purchased last year for accuracy.
