Sea-Dwellers Good Value

It seems like there's always an abundance of Sea-Dwellers for sale at excellent prices - relative to their MSRP. Any thoughts as to why there are always so many for sale? I'd love a Submariner one day, but a Sea-Dweller would be just as good in my mind.

It seems like there is a greater abundance of Subs available.

I love my Sea Dweller. I feels just like my Milgauss on my wrist, whereas the Subs feel a bit lighter. No Cyclops to goober up the crystal. Size and readability are as good as my other watches too.

Discounts are greater because non wis want the sub. Wis are a small niche of the Rolex community. Much smaller than the crunchy peanut butter crew

SubCs are a lot easier to move because they wear bigger (even though they're both 40 mm) because of the lugs, flat crystal and the current trend of larger watches is still going strong.

Pretty much...they're both 40mm. The case, however, is thicker on the SD, and I believe it is a little heavier.

Interesting. I assumed the SD would wear larger. I need to go look at them head-to-head. Does anyone have photos of both together?

The Lugs on the SD a more narrow, makes it look smaller but they are the sam size 40mm (SD is thicker).

The reason I believe you see a lot of Subs and SD for sale is that for the non enthusiasts those are the first watches they buy... Don't forget buyers remorse also...

Yes, you do. Thought I wanted the Subc until I tried the SDc. Didn't like the Sub's lugs. Too big.

Bought the SDc. Slightly taller and heavier but not objectionably so. With lugs that are more traditional it looks more proportional compared to the Sub.

Interesting differences. I like a slightly taller and heavier watch.....That's part of the reason I have a Milgauss instead of a DJ. Ironically the Milgauss and the SD are the only two sports models with text on the underside.

They wear differently for sure, and the SD is heavier with thicker case and crystal. The SubC seems to distribute its weight broadly on the wrist where the SD 4000 sits up higher so the higher center of gravity balances differently. They both are super comfortable; Glidelock certainly helps with that.
Now if you're referring to the 5 digit references: Ditto sans the Glidelock.

I like my peanut butter and also my 2 SDs, what am I?

Love diving watches, but sadly never own any date subs b4, had a fling with a 14060M 2liner but traded due to some problem, missing that but at least my 2 SDs are keeping me warm.

The only part I do not understand is the date on the SD, its an amazing watch with a fantastic case, but that date…oh well I can live with that.

I never noticed how much the crystal protrudes above the bezel on the SD. That's really cool. I'm going to have to get to an AD and take a closer look at these. I love the Sub as well as the DSSD, but I think the SD is a little more unique. The DSSD is out of my price range.

Does anyone know the weight differential and thickness differential between the Submariner and the SD?

Another difference between the SD and the Sub is the solid end links on the SD sit above the lugs.
