How much is a YMII worth with/without box and papers

I am toying with the idea of flipping my TT Daytona + 3K cash for a SS YMII with appraisal from a trusted local jeweller but no Rolex box or papers - I am only concerned about the re-sale value if I decide to resell it.

Would you do it? What percentage decrease from market value of a watch with papers is it worth?

Any experience with this issue would be appreciated.

I'd guess it would be about $400-500 for a complete set on a YMII. Can't know for sure cause it's more about that someone's willing to pay. If there's any chance you will re-sell/flip/trade, I'd def opt for the complete set, just cause it's a little easier to sell IMO.

Couldn't you just sell the Daytona and the $3000 and buy a new YMII from a trusted seller?

Aside from the warrantee card and the hangtag, you can get everything else. I'm not sure what your resources are where you are located, but I know a used Rolex dealer in Toronto who has all of the stuff necessary to make up a whole new kit. That includes the box, the green leather wallet, the owners manual, the warrantee booklet, and the COSC hangtag (green or red) and maybe even the suede leather swatch of polishing cloth. The most expensive item on this list is the box. You're looking at $250 for that.

As an owner of a YM2 SS, I'd prefer that if it were used, it is in very good shape, no major blemishes and unpolished. A polished Rolex is a major no-no in my books and is a bigger deal-killer for me than if it's missing the box and stuff (assuming that the watch is authentic of coarse). One of the main reasons why I only by new from an AD is my fear that the watch was polished.

Just out of curiosity, if a watch has been polished, but there's literally no way you could tell, it would still be a deal breaker for you?

My guess is most of the watches sold pre-owned by the top trusted sellers, receive a light polishing. It seems like every singe watch that's sold is in excellent-mint condition. At the rate we see watches flipped around here, we know the watches that are being circulated have been used (not abused) but still used, likely with all the little scratches that come with the territory.

Anyway, your comment brings up an interesting point regarding that.

Glad you took notice of this. A lot of TRF'ers here tend to have this polishing fixation. Small scratch, it's driving me nuts, gotta break out the cap cod cloth and polish that out. Scratches on my clasp, OMG the world is ending, break out the dremel and let's file this thing down, etc etc etc. Then you read about all the horror stories of people sending their watches in for maintenance and the watch coming back either poorly polished, over-polished, and in some cases the lugs have pretty much been sanded down. Terrible

How much you figure the price of that piece of plastic is?

When comes the time for service have it done at the RSC. You usually get full written authentication & certification. This to me this is more desirable than the original papers when buying used, and it also shows the service credentials.
Boxes, books, tags can be easily sourced. Seems like it is from a reputable source.
So if you like it, and the deal is good go for it.

If the YMII is a random serial # then the card becomes slightly more important upon resale - especially to a WIS who cares about knowing the general era it was made. Of course a dated card only approximates the manufacture date. Like the "use by" date on a food product, a dated card doesn't tell you when it was made.
Very hard to forecast how much value difference it makes for some future flip since a new generation of WIS may attribute nothing to cards, papers, boxes, etc.
