Has anyone tried the younger vintage? Wonder if it is as good or may need some extra time?? Also hard to say with a blend.

The wife and I are meeting some friends for dinner...they are big Pinot fans...so I went and looked through the cellar and decided on one of my favorite Southern California Pinots - Sea Smoke.

The Southing is a solid Pinot - - not a ton of fruit on the palate up front (like I like) - more mid-palate cherry and blackberry flavor -- yet earthy with a little spice.

If you like Pinots -- and you haven't had this one - you have got to try!!

Honig 2012 Bartolucci Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley St. Helena

Nice Cab! Very enjoyable and recommended!

JS 90 | WS 89

Winemaker's Notes
Plenty of ripe, wild berry and plum aromas and flavors, framed by vanilla, spice, and toasty oak. Lush mid-palate tannins flow into a lengthy finish accented by bright fruit.

Blend: 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, 7% Petit Verdot

According to James Suckling - "This is solid and tight with berry and dark chocolate, yet subtle and right. Medium to full body. Drink now."

According to Wine Spectator - "Fresh and vibrant, with snappy red berry, currant and raspberry flavors, supported by crisp acidity and firm, ripe tannins. Offers impressive elegance and refinement. Drink now through 2022."

Excellent Pinot noir and their Chardonnay is terrific as well. We had both tonight at a local Steakhouse with some friends.

Bringing these two to one of our favorite byob's. Pretty different from a price perspective. Looking forward to comparing them.

Had dinner with some friends last night and brought these two...I am VERY picky with Chardonnay -- this one is AMAZING -- and (of course) the cab was great also.

For anyone interested, iTunes released the "sequel" to Somm called Into the Bottle yesterday. Its a great watch. Visually stunning and does a fantastic job at exploring the world of wine.

Getting together with some friends later this evening for a raclette party. It was our job to bring some wine as the host is a $2 chuck trader joes kinda of house. Think we have a good mix. From $10-$30 a bottle. Mostly reds and the white is a local winery from around our old house.
Cheers!!

Oh yes. That is a great bottle. I ordered quite a few 2010 during the last summer and bought a case of the 2007 from Costco, snapped all they had about 2 years ago. Really a great wine for the price
