If anyone's curious, pics were taken during my stay at the Sofitel Ia Ora resort. Second time I've stayed there in one of the overwater bungalows facing the ocean. Fun snorkeling right outside. I brought a bunch of wine and champers b/c prices for everything on Moorea are high.

I think it's great that this thread started with a couple sub $10 bottles of wine and has gone from there to $100+++ bottles and everywhere in between. Really represents the great diversity amongst our members.

***as I sit here and during the most interesting wine I have drank in a while because I am too lazy to leave the hotel bar. And it was cheap. $10 a bottle.

Lots of great cabs on here (Caymus, Far Niente), but for everyday wines, you can't go wrong with Willamette OR Pinot Noirs. Great to drink by themselves and go well with everything from salmon to steak. Lots of great bottles in the $20-$25 range. Benton Lane and Penner Ash are both great values. Look for 2012!

I don't generally bother with Merlots as they rarely have the quality to stand on their own as a single variety.

Well done Marc! There is nothing better than "finding" the small case production gems! The consumer is the true winner here because the small wineries can afford to source the best of everything, from the fruit, to the barrels, to the "hands -on" wine making practices. The small wineries "build" these wines sparing NO expense, where the "major players" have strict budgets, and bottom lines when doing huge case production in the thousands vs a hundred or so cases the family winery does. They are great deals usually on the wallet as well, because you aren't paying for hype, and hype costs alot! Then things can gets really pricey when you have hype + a quality wine, then the skies the limit! For instance, my families winery sells a $38.00, 95pt bottle, and when it sold out in 2 weeks after Wine Enthusiast gave it Editors Choice, people were paying 5x on the secondary market just to get it. Crazy! Nothing better than the family wineries IMHO...Ill put them up against the best!

Good point my friend! If we were selling Bourbon we'd be fending off secondary leeches like they were mosquitos!!!!!!

I must say this is tasting very nice. If I can keep my lips off the glass for a little while I can tell it is going get be even better with some time! I would recommend this bottle if you are looking for a nice blend!

From a wonderfully abundant vintage with exceptional quality, this Freemark Abbey Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend from over 20 + vineyards using all 5 Bordeaux varietals. Selecting from all over the Napa Valley, we were truly kids in a candy store in creating this 2012 cabernet with its' youthful dark ruby color. With great complexity, the wine expresses aromas of fresh boysenberry, blackberry pie, Bing cherry, dark chocolate, chocolate berry truffle dusted with cocoa powder, all integrated with the spicy sweetness of oak, cedar, cinnamon, clove and a hint of black pepper. The body is very full with a soft entry, coupled with dark cherry/berry flavors that develop from start to finish. With great texture and mouth feel, this cabernet is full bodied, rich and opulent. In one word... delicious.
