older day date wg lighter?

Somebody i know has an older (not sure how old) day date, it's bi metal with a black jeweled dial.
He took it off to show me and when I held it, it felt light. He assured me it was a genuine Rolex but I wondered why this would be the case?

FWIW the bracelet had the older type clasp?

Any pointers, Im still learning?

I think this just has to do with the older model. I have a rootbeer GMT that my father bought in the 70s and it is significantly lighter than the sub I purchased last year. I don't know if Rolex is adding weight to their modern watches to increase the perception of quality, or if there is really that much difference with modern movements

I'm not an expert, but I thought all DD are solid precious medal and not bi-metal / two tone. Again I'm no expert...

I'm sure older models are lighter than the newer ones due to different clasps, end links, etc.

Not calling anyone out but i think he showed you a fake watch.

I dont think I've ever seen or heard of a two-tone Day-Date. Also the dial sounds to be a little fishy to me.

Without seeing the watch i cant say for sure. Not an expert but somewhat knowledgable.

But yes the older Day-Date are lighter than the newer ones due to thinner claps and hollow links on the bracelet.

Older Rolex PM bands were not solid, the new ones are, not sure what year it changed. But that's the main difference in weight.

It wasn't tridor, I've seen them it was a solid gold line through the middle of brushed steel outer. It was the older type fastener (sorry don't know the technical term)

Maybe I will have another look, it's quite possibly a fake but it didn't look it.

Nope, this bloke is the butt of many jokes from me, he can take what I throw at him, hes probably sniggering as I type, in the knowledge that he had me fooled (though Im still not sure) basically he owns the corner newsagent shop next to my little office and I go in there and buy bits and pieces.
I call him Raj (as in David Walliams kids books - the indian bloke in the corner shop) poor geezer, i dont know his real name but he takes it well.

i will investigate Raj further though, perhaps under interrogation with a hot air gun aimed at his best chocolate collection on the shelf. That ought to bring out the truth.
