If I could afford it I'd have one SS beater, and all my other watches would be WG or RG. White gold for Rolex and RG for Audemars! Maybe id pick up some Rolex platinum too. Why not right!? Lol.

I like the heft. Secretly I prefer WG and I sadly feel platinum is a little too heavy. Certain YG pieces can attract unfavorable eyes.

I think people have a perception that gold is softer than SS. And that makes it more durable. But I wear my gold watches just as hard as my SS watches and they seem to be ok. Gold is softer. But they are just as tough imo.

White gold is, to the bystander, seen as stainless steel. There's nothing 'flash' about it. For me, the extra weight and the feeling of having something 'special' on my wrist is rather pleasing. It's not a sin...but it is expensive. So I have SS and white gold watches. Both are just fine.
Come to think of it, I'd like a platinum watch, but it's beyond my sensible reach. |

Not sure if this is a preference per say. But when I think of Rolex, I think of sporty, durable, do-all watches. That seems better fit in SS.

Chaps
I have three SS Rolex and I bought them because they look good, are reasonably discreet, good quality, will last a lifetime and perfectly fit the ethos of Rolex making a sporty yet cool looking watch. The problem with gold, which I will never buy, is that it attracts the wrong sort of attention. Whilst someone may love wearing a gold Rolex, it does have visual impact and people will stare at it for a variety of reasons, most of which are bad. For this reason, I will stick with SS. I've done TT, which isn't bad. Gold is just too much... gold

I prefer SS for all my watches, except complications where I would happily go to WG or Plat from PP. I'm just more comfortable with SS on my wrist and don't worry about scratches, dings, or dents!

Not sure if that is a real "rule", like brown belt/brown shoes, or just what I'm comfortable with but IMO it looks "off" to wear a watch with gold in it and a t-shirt or at the beach... |

Stainless much less prone to scratching and won't ding nearly as badly as gold. A good hit, and a gold case can be ruined. That's about it.

The only g watch i have is my DD, but only because it isn't made in SS. If it were made in SS, I would have that over the g in two shakes!!! I regularly contemplate dumping it for a nice fluted SS DJ on a Jub.

All my assessories (shoe bit - Gucci), belt (silver buckle) etc. are silver toned so I wear SS, WG, and PT.

Go browse the Invicta Watch site; plenty of gold color and two tones there. Not recommending the brand but just looking at what's popular today. Also Michael Kors has got a lot of gold tone ones. Gold seems plenty popular outside of the forum.

I dig YG, always have. I love the warmth of it, but as others have stated I do believe skin tone affects the way it looks on people. I have fairly dark skin and tan easy so I have always liked the way it looked on me. Over the years had a few solid YG models and many a TT. I personally like the warmth and the added weight.
For some reason as I have aged I have moved away from YG. I have sold/flipped all my YG/TT watches over the last couple of years. Has nothing to do with what is in style or what others think. I think mainly it was my shift to vintage models. However, a vintage DD in YG is on the list for future acquisitions. I need a dress watch and while some may not consider a DD a dress watch it will work for me. I plan to wear it on straps. |

LOL, you're my favorite poster on RF so this makes complete sense now. FYI, 1016 on the left, Oyster bracelet, polished just Monday night using your synthetic steel wool technique after my successful Submariner showing at Turks & Caicos last week. Had a nice Rolex glisten in the sun whilst vacationing. |

OP, this is by my count the third such thread (comparing gold to ss) you've started since joining TRF a few months ago. What's your point?
