Patina on WG Silver Arabic 116509 Daytona Dial...,,,
I have a spare white gold Daytona dial, the silver Arabic racing dial.
It is in fantastic condition and has the almost pink patina around the numerals. Would some sort of alcohol cleaner take this patina away or is it here to stay? Also, what are your thoughts on this patina? I also have a full set of matching hands for this dial (black hour & minute plus 4 red chrono hands in mint as new condition. I'm not sure what to do with this set yet and in particular the dial so your honest opinions would be welcomed.

I would say never try to clean a dial. Put it away and see how it develops.

not sure that is patina.
It looks as if those numerals were heated too much on the back when they were mounted. |

My honest opinion is I would not want to have that dial in my watch the way it is now. Good Luck...

One man's patina is another man's damaged dial.
That kind of non uniform color change doesn't appeal to me in any way. Try leaving it in the sun for 6 months and see what develops.

It's very interesting....if you draw a line from the 2 to the 8, it's only on that half of the dial.

I've seen them like this as well. Not sure if it's a "too much heat thing or what", but I'm not into it. I had this exact style fitted in to a we Daytona, then a black Arabic one--- they both are nice in pics- but rather useless imo for function. The liked dials- be it panda or slate are much more user friendly in my option. But back to your post- not into the defect--- err, I mean patina. :-)

Agree it's common with that dial. People try to sell those on eBay for less than normal prices but still expensive.
If you have a 116509 then you could have the dial put on and at servicing request a replacement. If you like the character than keep it but I don't think there's much of a market for that dial in that condition. |

That ain't patina. But call it "tropical" and some hipster will pay $8,000 for it.
