You could swap the dial out at a service interval but personally i would keep it the way it is. A nice faded dial adds beauty and value to the watch. Could we see a picture ? A good independant watchmaker can refinish the dial if you really want that..but IMO dont do it!

Wops ! I must be getting sleepy :). You could always get a new caseback during a service interval. Would probably be the easiest option. Not sure about refinishing a caseback tho..I am sure someone could do it, perhaps a watchmaker?

I would have thought filling it with black enamel and removing excess like Rolex do would do the job.

Clean the old lettering as good as possible with alcohol. Apply thin paint with the finest pinsel or toothpick and remove spilled or excessive paint immediately with a cotton tip. To harden the paint, heat it up for a few seconds. Tedious job, but can be done with some patience.

I would either leave it alone or let Rolex put a new back on during the next service.

Short of a new case back, I'm not sure it's a do it yourself job. I assume the paint applied by Rolex is put on with heat or some other process to provide for a proper bond.
I had the same happen to my 5digit SD. |

It is actually easy to do.i us to do it on my golf clubs all the time.
Paint the numbers the best you can with a brush but don't worry if you are sloppy. When dry or at least when paint is still a little tacky, wipe it very lightly with thinner on a rag. It will clean off the surface while leaving the paint in the grooves. Just wipe lightly back and forth. Super easy ! If you mess up, no big deal just do it again. Look up painting gold clubs on YouTube. |

Originality and authenticity is what makes a watch valuable, not how many times it's been "touched up".

Just leave it alone.
I have a frecionne with all the black paint on the bezel worn off and I was told by my AD that I had two choices. 1. Buy a new bezel would would look out of place with the main body of the watch, 2. Leave as is I was told that repainting will never look right and the paint will never be as tough as the original stuff. I chose to leave as is. Regards Mick |

I'd leave it alone.
Otherwise, replace it during service. |
