Between a boat and a skydweller, you can have one. What do?

In my older and wiser age now, I've shifted priorities to watches. I feel that the watch can be enjoyed literally for generations and doesn't depreciate as much (and if at all over the long-term); while cars, motorcycles, and boats seem to massively depreciate before you eventually unload them. A nice watch in the long run may even appreciate in value over the long term. I feel that I can leave my watches to my kids, whereas they're not going to want my crappy old cars by the time I bequeath to them.

Boats are not my thing. As I travel all the time and drive my car maybe 1 week a year, that too is not a big deal anymore.

Guitars, well, I already have too many.

I suppose timepieces ticks all of my boxes over anything else material wise.

Some of y'all sound like a lot of fun lol. I know it's a watch board but dang. I guess a lot of it must be geography based, but I can't imagine choosing a watch over a boat. All the talk about "tool" watches and divers and most of them never see the water lol.

Just sold my Softail yesterday, miss it already. Putting that money in a special bike account. Looking for a nice, clean, used Electra Glide. First time without a bike in about 30 years. Watches do take up alot less room though...

I like boats, but you could easily show your friends and family a great time by chartering a boat for the day

Boats and planes are hard to justify owning unless you use them very frequently

Typically, a boat or car is going to be a lot more pricey. You can conservatively get a SkyD for 35k nib and sell it whenever for 25k+ so the real cost is around 10k. Whatever 10k of actual cost gets you in realm of cars or boats, I'm choosing the watch. Should you keep it forever, it becomes an heirloom.

I would say once you cross the 30k threshold for a watch you probably should have enough money to buy just about any boat, car, or any toy you want. If not you probably should not own a 30k plus watch.

I'm more of a car guy than boat guy. For the 40K to 50K we are talking their would not be many new fun cars but a whole host of pre-owned beauties would be in that price range. Vintage Rolls Corniche, slighly older Aston Martins. I could get a lot of car for that price range. However, like the boat they would take additional funds to keep them insured and in good nick. I always fall back on the daily enjoyment of Rolex and once puchased cost of ownership is quite low whether a stainless model or precious metal model. I have been faced with this recently with motorcycle fever the choice between a BMW GS or Daytona has arisen in my life. I will probably opt for the Daytona.

The upkeep on a boat will cost as much as the Skydweller. So you may as well buy 2 and forget about the boat.

Well, actually all sorts of cars for that price point.

New? The field gets smaller. But still some nice options. Very nice actually. Nissan 350, WRX, even the corvette starts at around 55k.

Used, tons of fun options.

But if I'm thinking about spending on a 40k$ watch, and I can only have one or the other, likely I'm taking that money and putting towards a car.

I get bored of watches way too fast. Cars tend to last longer for me.
