I think that if the watch is available in ss as well, then that's likely the best value point. Typically a watch in ss that's also available in pm uses exactly the same movement, so in reality there's no gain in terms of movement sophistication. If the watch is only available in pm then you have a different equation. To illustrate that a DD40 makes perfect sense whereas a Daytona on pm makes no sense to me at all.

Well, a Daytona in PM is no different than say a 5712g - a stainless steel variant with the same movement exists, but sometimes, we just want what we want. Often times this hobby doesn't make sense.

OP - congrats on the future Daytona incoming. Of the options you originally presented, I would have gone with #2. Between the YMII and the DD40, I'd say go for the green dial WG DD40.

I had the same outlook for a little bit, and yes we all buy what 'sings' to use. In my case, one day I realized that I wanted my gold to look like gold, and questioned "if I wanted something to looks like steel, was having WG a really good value proposition (especially, as other have pointed out, there is no variation in movement)?" So, just speaking for me, I went full on RG, and loving every minute.

PS: the only SS piece I have now is my D-Blue, and this baby isn't going anywhere!

I think you have the right idea about going multiple SS apart from the YMII. As you say, it's Marmite but there are so many nicer references than that. Pick a GMT instead.

Good luck

Agree, unless you get the 5712G for less than the 5712/1a...

Very tough call I would be inclined to buy the DD40 and hopefully nudge your way up the list for the Daytona a bit then flip that to cover part of the dd expense.....only to reacquire the 116500 down the road when prices settle
