Not sure when it happened, but some months ago (maybe as far back as 6 or 8 months ago) I had read a thread (or perhaps more than just one) that had mentioned Cape Cod cloths as the best to polish/shine your watches, and to buff out swirls or scratches... Well, after a little over 8 months after acquiring my fluted DJII, I decided it was time to bring back some of its original shine. I ordered the Cape Cod cloths from Amazon (good price, and quick delivery) and polished my girlfriend's two-tone DJ36 and my DJII and the results were incredible. Both watches look as good (or, better?) than when we first got them. Really impressive results.

All this to say: thank you TRF (once again!) for being such a good resource for information about everything Rolex, for all the excellent feedback and tips on owning and caring for our timepieces.

Take it easy with those. You take metal off every time you use it. You might not notice anything right away but it'll round off the edges of your watch/ bracelet.

Cape Cod is a quick way to hide naked eye imperfections. If you look with a loupe they'll likely still be there but the whole idea is to hide them right?

As someone suggested don't go crazy with them at the first sign of a scratch but it's really not like you're suddenly going to thin up the case or remove excessive metal by hand.

They are great. I wouldn't use it more often than once in a long while though.. if you develop a habit of using them frequently it will have an impact on your watch - the rule, too much of a good thing is no good, applies here!

You can ruin a case's finish pretty quick with those.

Sure they have a decent temporary result but I stay away from cape cod and anything else to try and self polish my Rolex. Let a professional take care of it.

Thank you everyone for the feedback, and warnings. I figure that as an occasional polish and buff (say, once a year) this should be safe. I wasn't going too hard or strong, so I feel OK with the awesome results.

Personally am not of the mind to use them, but I did want to commend you on practicing on your girlfriend's watch first before taking the cloth to your own pride and joy.
