noob question

My wife and I have a close friend who is getting married soon, and I think that a nice fountain pen would be a great gift for her. She is already using disposable fountain pens and enjoys writing with them, and think that it would be very meaningful to her to have a nice one.

The problem is that the only brands that I know are Monte Blanc and DuPont and I'm just starting to begin my research. Right now I'm leaning towards Monte Blanc because her parents gave her a roller ball Monte Blanc when she graduated college, but she lost it not long after when her bag was stolen.

Does the Monte Blanc 146 sort of equate to a Rolex Submariner (icon design, great all around at what it does)? Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

Fortunately today there are more great pens being made than ever before. Montblanc is a well know and recognizable brand but today it's more about wallets and perfume than fountain pens.

Since it's a good friend, what are her interests? Is there a country she adores, an author, a season of the year, an activity, anything that epitomizes "HER"?

She was an English major in college, and is a big fan of British literature. Of course, that means that Jane Austin is her favorite author.

Other than that, her hobbies are gardening and old fashioned entertaining. She throws the best dinner parties.

Don't know if that helps.

X2!!!

You can't really go wrong gifting a Montblanc FP as a wedding gift if they are at all familiar with writing instruments!

I think I would also consider giving them a nice journal of some kind with a suggestion that they think about writing daily about their lives.
