RSC Chicago and RSC San Fransisco

As you all know, both are independent RSCs. What exactly does that mean? Is the only difference between (for example) RSC NY and RSC SF that RSC NY is owned by Rolex? How could those two RSCs still operate if they aren't owned by Rolex?

Please, help a noobie out.

I don't know what is going on in Chicago. Something seems to be happening there.

This is just an assumption on my part as to San Francisco. They probably have a contract with Rolex USA that allows them to service a Rolex and give a warranty that is backed by Rolex. Because they are independently owned, they make some of their own decisions on whether or not to service a particular watch. That is why SF may service an older Rolex that the company owned RSCs will not.

Rolexers do it with perpetual movements.

I live in Chicago and heard mostly bad reports about Chicago. I would use Dallas now or any RSC that Rolex USA operates, the main reason is if they screw something up you have a much better chance to get it resolved.

I don't know the current status on access to a Rolex parts account but... that is a necessity. I thought I heard they cut off all independents..?? I don't know what relationship is required to get a Rolex parts account but (existing inventory aside) SF and Chicago would seem to have one and that sets them apart from the others.

I had my Daytona serviced at RSC SF in 2005, $600. I wear mine everyday and it shows. Came back looking 95% new, no problems since. Planning on having them replace the bracelet, bezel and crystal when it goes back in 2010.
