Submariner Date finicky crown action

Hi guys,

I recently purchased a brand new in box Hulk from an AD.

I've noticed 2 problems with the crown action:

1. When I unscrew the crown, it doesn't always snap to "winding" position. Sometimes I need to fiddle with it(small clockwise turn) to make it pop out to "winding" position.

2. Once the crown is in winding position, if I try to pull it out 1 more click to "date adjust" position, the crown sometimes becomes stuck and doesn't come out. So I have to fiddle with the crown by turning it a few turns clockwise/counterclockwise, then try pulling it out to "date adjust" position again. Sometimes it takes a few tries.

Are both of these problems common? Thanks.

Welcome to the charm of mechanical marvels.

A lot of sockets and gears have to align and fit into place before you can reach it's function.

The crown and stem is a gearshift and subject to all the same zigs and zags as any other gearshift.

Both I have experienced to some degree with every Rolex I've owned or handled, consider them traits not problems

thanks! holy cow what a coincidence, i see your location is calgary and i'm right now taking a vacation in banff from seattle US.

Perfectly normal, my sub is the same, at times it pops out and no issues, other times a small back and forward twiddle to get things engaged, so many mechanical parts have to mesh together.

Same behaviors on mine. But you should definitely post some wrist shots just so we can be sure your watch is Ok.

From my own experience, Rolex movements out of all my other brands can be temperamental with what you are describing. Believe it or not it is normal for Rolex. Be gentle and slightly turn the stem either way as you pull out. Like mentioned, it's the gears lining up.
