Yes, Dave Mustaine was ousted from Metallica in 1983 and formed Megadeth with the bass player David Ellefson. They were all from the LA area. These early death metal bands played in the PNW a lot in the early 80's. They played small venues like skating rinks and small clubs. I have great memories of seeing many of the bands in their formative years.

There was much back and forth drama between the two bands after the split. Mustaine was always complaining the Metallica was stealing his music...
