Sorry not for me although all the Rolex movements are excellent in performance and accuracy in the looks department quite plain Jane but whatever floats your boat.

Omega & Rolex movements are quite different in terms of appearance.

A lot more effect in terms of aesthetic appearance from Omega as the majority of their pieces come with saphire casebacks as standard.

Rolex movements are only ever designed to be viewed by the technicians at RSC during service.

This has nothing to do with one being more or less accurate than the other, it is purely a presentation thing.

Just curious as to how the aftermarket saphire caseback affects the Rolex warranty?

I used to criticize the way Rolex did not have a display back. A few years later, I am actually preferring the solid backs

Rolex movements are very plain and functional but still quite interesting to see. I like it. Its a novelty though - overall I prefer the tool watch aesthetic of the solid case backs.

Agree totally. Rolex movements are very utilitarian but definitely not a beautiful work of art. Comparing a Rolex movement to something as well finished as a Patek is like comparing me making a play doh sculpture to Michelangelo's David.

I agree with Peter and Gunther the Rolex movement is not finished to the standard of some other manufacturers.

But

Sometimes something different is worth seeing?

When I started reading about Rolex models I was very surprised that they don't have options with sapphire backs, even with the fairly plain movement.

I got used to that concept now, but it still surprises me a bit that they have absolutely nothing etched on the back. For instance, the TAG Aquaracer is closed like the Submariner, but has a kinda cool diver etching, along with some lettering. Makes it look at bit more interesting than a totally empty plain caseback.

It isn't that are beautiful to look at it's the historical significance of the movement that is fascinating to me. This one is 49 years old, billions of beats (19800BPH) and there it is in it's perfection, ready for another 50 years. The dials get all the attention in vintage but it's that lion heart that made it all possible.



The available glass backs are rated at 300m.

Well, I got this so I could admire the movement. It may not be as decorated as an omega or haute horology, but it has an industrial aesthetic which is pleasing to me. Also I always like seeing a balance spin.
For the warranty, I'll just swap back the original caseback before any claims and no one will be the wiser.

That's fine, I appreciate it's your watch you can do what you want with it.

After market saphire casebacks arent for everyone but like I say, it's your watch, your money, your choice.

Which non-Rolex gasket are you referring to John?

On my Oysterquartz, as you can see, the gasket is in the case and the clear case back gives me the same water resistance as the original case back.

Not that I have bobbed to 100m lately.

He probably means the gasket between the sapphire glass and the caseback

Had one on my Sub-C for about 3 years. I had it professionally installed, and pressure tested. Swimming, snorkeling, pool, etc., never had any issues. Just ordered another one for my new BLNR.

I like to see what makes it tick.
