16710 Inserts chipping?

Is it common when changing inserts for them to chip on the edges? Once installed in the bezel you can't see it.

Depends on how you are changing out the insert. If you remove the bezel then the insert, you should not experience any chipping.

Not sure if it's common but have seen it happen. But as you say, once installed it's a nonissue.

I have never had that problem of chipping when changing inserts.

I have that issue on mine...Thankfully can't be seen when seated.

Nope. Possibly as the result of a small ding or burr on the inside of the bezel ring. Some sand or grit caught up there could also cause it. Can't see how the two surfaces themselves ccould chip as the insert itself is anodised aluminium and not painted.

The pics look more like wear than chipping but I'd still attribute this to some kind of abrasive foreign material. Nothing to worry about really!

No idea. I tried to get a new insert for a friend of mine recently to no avail. It seems my previously reliable source has evaporated. I'm just happy I have all 3 inserts for my 16710.
As Speed said don't change too frequently to prevent any unnecessary wear on the bezel ring and you should be fine. It might be an idea to thoroughly clean and rinse the bezel assembly (I do) before doing any swaps too. Congrats btw way, what a watch!

I have seen entire bezel assemblies pop up in the Classifieds section on occasion. They are obscenely expensive though. Like $1,000 - $1,500.

I've swapped bezel inserts on my 16710 and none of them ever chipped. But then mine were all legit Rolex parts, not aftermarket parts. My last Pepsi insert cost me $180 and came in the Rolex packaging.

We're talking about legit Rolex inserts. And you paid way way over the list price. Mine cost the equivalent of $42.00 at St James in London.

He's talking about entire bezel assemblies (insert, ring, bezel)....much more than just the insert.

Between $150-350 is the going rate on the market for inserts since Rolex wont sell them individually. I'm glad you only had to pay $42 for yours, however I've had to pay between $125-225 for my three inserts.

If you read his post he's talking about an insert, not the complete bezel assembly. That's how I read it anyway.

Apologize, I read the first paragraph and missed him talking about inserts separately. Saw it again in your quote again and thought you misunderstood. Yes RSC would be the cheapest route if they sell you parts...otherwise you're at the mercy of grey market.

Maybe I can clear up some confusion.

My first lost was about the inserts..later in this thread I asked if the bezels themselves could be sourced.

The seller I bought these from is a member here and stated he bought them at the RSC in California and guarantees they are 100% authentic. If I'm ever told otherwise he would double my refund.
